Ben Artofen, also known as Ben Lambert and Little Ben by his family, was a male Human/Twi'lek hybrid born during the conflict with Zakuul and was the eldest son of Lexi and Benjamin Lambert. He was born on Dathomir during the last days of the Galactic War after his mother's ship was shot down above the planet, but his birth was registered on the Smuggler's Moon, where he spent the first five years of his life.
Ben was named after his father (presumed KIA at the time of his birth) and had two sisters, his twin Alucia Lambert and the younger Acina Lambert.
By 36 ATC, he was a member of the SIS's Strategic Asset Reassignment Bureau, a coalition of Republic-aligned Force users who did not subscribe to the religious beliefs of the Jedi Order. A cocky womanizer, Ben was humiliated when he had to be rescued by his adoptive mother following his defeat at the hands of Darth Vokuur, motivating him to attempt to assassinate the elusive alchemist Sera Artofen to impress his father.
During the attempt, the duelists ended up on one of Ilum's ice shelves when it collapsed and swallowed them both, taking the fight below ground to a frozen cavern where a chance rockfall left the Dark Lord at Ben's mercy. Unable to kill her in cold blood, Ben instead helped the Sith escape her predicament and navigate the caves until they found an exit several days later, where they were met by Sera's Sith disciples.
Rather than turn Ben in to the Empire's custody, she killed the Sith herself and invited her unlikely ally to see the Sith Empire for himself, rather than allowing his opinion to be formed from hearsay and the claims of his father, an offer he was intrigued enough to accept.
He spent the best part of a year living and training with Artofen on Som Galla, officially as her "apprentice", though in truth their relationship was an unusual form of friendship which eventually developed into romance. Artofen was captured when Republic forces arrived on Som Galla and Ben was "rescued", though he later attacked the Republic prison ship transporting his Sith partner to the Belsavis prison complex, a rescue that lead to a warrant being issued for his arrest.
Despite being marked as a traitor, Ben took part in the Republic's attack on the Dromund Forge, after which he and Sera returned to Som Galla to resume their life together on the outskirts of the new boundary of Sith space, serving as joint rulers of the small collection of volcanic islands that collectively held the planet's entire Sith-worshiping population. They married on the world according to local customs not long after their return, where Ben took on the Artofen name as his own.
Although Ben's relationship with his family was tense after his betrayal of the Republic, they grew closer again over the years that followed, particularly after the birth of the couple's first child, Sakura Artofen. The couple had two more children not long after Sakura, Mariko Artofen and Suiko Artofen, and after their births Ben's parents and siblings made an effort to attend the annual Lords Carnival each year.
