In 158 ABY, Rin Sakaros, Queen of the Golden Empire, led an attack on a ritual conducted by the Cult of the Eater of the Self in the Sucker's cave on a planet in Wild Space.
The quest[]
Tarzg Sav'lir: “There's something wrong about this place. I don't know what it is.”
Rin Sakaros: “Like our trip to the Planet of One?”
Tarzg Sav'lir: “That was an echo of danger. The planet had brutality, but in the past. The danger here is now.”
— Tarzg Sav'lir's assessment of the Sucker's planet
Rin had journeyed throughout the galaxy in an attempt to reawaken her telepathic abilities, which had been silent—preventing her from reaching other minds or others from reaching her mind—since the death of Reiko Kaytana over a year before. She was accompanied by her foremost Royal Guard, Tarzg Sav'lir, and her friend and Novice Azalyn Kass`l.
One of Rin's contacts, the information broker Myko, provided her the coordinates of the planet in aid to her quest. When Rin and her crew arrived in the Wanderlust, she could not sense anything amiss, though she did feel destiny had called her there. However, both Tarzg and Azalyn could feel the dark side presence of the cave in the Force, and led Rin there.
A beginning and an end[]
Something will happen. It will be important…a turning point…a beginning and an end…but beyond those very vague insights...we must simply live it for the path to take shape.
—Azalyn Kass`l's perceptions before the battle
The Cult of the Eater of the Self had become active not long before Rin's arrival, stepping up sentient sacrifices to the Sucker, a Sithspawn living in a cave the cult had converted to a temple. Rin's party crossed paths with three terrified natives; though their language was unintelligible, Azalyn was able to telepathically perceive the path forward. Sensing the danger, Tarzg suggested having Azalyn remain outside while he and Rin investigated, but Rin overruled him instinctively, sensing Azalyn's presence was necessary.
Inside, the trio found the Cult sacrificing sentients and chanting about the awakening of "the Herald", who would precede "the Eater of the Self". Tarzg perceived that there were at least three Force-sensitives among the crowd, including a Duros leading the group. Leaping amongst them, Rin decapitated the Duros, precipitating an all-out attack. Tarzg and Azalyn came at the cultists from the rear to draw them away.
Rin's party, armed with lightsabers, dominated the ensuing melee, although Tarzg became embroiled in a duel with one of the remaining Force-sensitives. As the battle progressed, the Sucker began to emerge from the pit, feeding indiscriminately upon cultists. A dark-robed cultist—secretly a body possessed by Mnggal-Mnggal, unbeknownst to either side—attempted to attack Azalyn, but Rin Force threw him into a wall hard enough to break most of the bones of his body. Rin was surprised to see the cultist hobble on broken legs to the Pit and throw himself in.
Azalyn narrowly survived a duel with the last Force-sensitive, killing him with a tehk'la blade through the head, but was struck with an arrow and downed. The Sucker attempted to feed on her, and when Rin tried to come to her aid, her Force lightning proved ineffective and she was grabbed by a Gamorrean cultist. Terrified for Azalyn, she finally managed to shatter the telepathic barrier she had subconsciously put up around herself, using Force Insanity to torture the Sucker into recoiling. Telekinetically controlling her lightsaber, she wounded the Sucker badly enough that a third of its body ripped away under strain of gravity, then killed it with Force lightning on its exposed innards. Mnggal-Mnggal had deliberately been eaten by the Sucker in an attempt to take over the Sucker's body, but that extension of itself was killed by Rin's Force lightning as well.
Aftermath[]
Tarzg killed his dueling partner, while Rin cold-bloodedly murdered the last cultist as he attempted to surrender, using the Force to twist his head 360° and snap his neck. Rin used her rejuvenative blood to heal Azalyn's shoulder; the young woman was shaken by the experience and the feeling of the cave in the Force, but recovered. Rin considered descending into the Pit to investigate the dead Sithspawn, but Tarzg persuaded her to leave it be, and the three of them buried the cave's entrance instead.
On the way out, Rin had Tarzg take holos of the cave paintings for further study.
