The Battle of the Oon Tien system was the first engagement of Operation Ardent Defense in 3,640 BBY, a campaign of the Galactic War.
Prelude[]
In 3,640 BBY, the war was going badly for the Sith Empire, especially due to the death of the Sith Emperor the previous year. The Empire, in an effort to slow down the Galactic Republic's offensives in the Outer Rim Territories, sent a task force to invade the Kathol sector. It was in a strategic location from which more attacks on Republic territory could be launched, and it would force the Republic to divert resources from other fronts.
The Republic countered it with its own defensive operation, Operation Ardent Defense, which was carried out by the Republic Sixth Fleet. As representatives of the Galactic Republic met with local Jarell leaders on Oon Tien, an Imperial flotilla entered the system and attacked the Republic force in the area.
The battle[]
The Terminus-class destroyer Superior launched a total of ten Mark VI Supremacy-class starfighters at the Republic defense force, which included the Valor-class cruiser Star of the Senate. In response, the Senate launched one of its pilots, Okren Bavris, flying the Liberator-class starfighter Razor 1. The ten Imperial fighters attacked Razor 1, but Bavris was able to destroy all ten of them by himself. He then used proton torpedoes to destroy the Superior. The entire Imperial force was eliminated.
Aftermath[]
The elimination of the Imperial attackers allowed Republic diplomats to gain information from the Jarell leaders on Oon Tien. An Imperial transport convoy was to pass through the Sebiris system soon, which then became the Republic Sixth Fleet's next destination.
