The Battle of Lagobah was a battle of the Outer Rim Sieges that took place above the planet Lagobah near the end of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems. Separatist General Yosip Zagoonga fled to the remote Outer Rim planet of Lagobah following his defeat at the Siege of Quadan VI, although he was attacked by the 96th Legion. During the battle, General Zagoonga's flagship Pride of Frenzan forcefully docked with the Persistence and battle droids attempted to destroy the ship and the Jedi, although they were repelled. Jedi Master Jon Ternath and his Padawan Jedaana Lokka then boarded Zagoonga's ship to capture him, but Order 66 was executed by Darth Sidious as they confronted him and the clone troopers executed Master Ternath. General Zagoonga saved Jedaana Lokka's life however, and the two survived the battle to later established the Lagobah rebel cell.
Prelude[]
During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Lagobah was located within Separatist space but was very obscure due to it lacking a significant population or anything of interest. Despite this, it was home to the Lagobah base constructed by Separatist sympathizers. After the Siege of Quadan VI and the Battle of Coruscant, which were both Republic victories, General Yosip Zagoonga of the Separatist Droid Army brought his Recusant-class light destroyer Pride of Frenzan and two Munificent-class star frigates to Lagobah. Although his T-series tactical droid advisor TZ-948 believed that the odds of a Separatist defeat in the war were 1 in 16, General Zagoonga knew otherwise. He had also been tracked by the 96th Legion led by Jedi General Jon Ternath, Jedi Commander Jedaana Lokka, and Clone Commander CC-3527 "Fang". The 96th had been Zagoonga's adversary for much of the war as they frequently fought against his battle droid forces.
The battle[]
When the Republic arrived with three Venator-class Star Destroyers, TZ-948 believed that the Separatist forces did not stand a good chance of winning. General Zagoonga was done retreating however and wanted to fight the Jedi. He ordered the Pride of Frenzan to charge at the Persistence and disable its deflector shields while his two frigates engaged the other two Star Destroyers. Zagoonga's destroyer then docked with the Persistence, and many battle droids were deployed to attack the ship, with the goal of killing or capturing the Jedi and destroying the reactor.
The two Jedi and their clone troopers fought well against the droid boarders however, and they eventually repelled the battle droids. Zagoonga's two other frigates were destroyed, although the other Venators did not fire on the Pride of Frenzan as doing so would destroy the Persistence in the process. Master Ternath, Padawan Lokka, and many clones then boarded the Pride of Frenzan to capture Yosip Zagoonga. Zagoonga deployed all his battle droids but eventually realized that they could not stop the Jedi. So Zagoonga put TZ-948 in charge of the bridge and went to fight the Jedi with his electrostaff and two IG-100 MagnaGuards.
General Zagoonga and his MagnaGuards soon confronted the two Jedi and dueled them. After one of Zagoonga's MagnaGuards was destroyed, he took its electrostaff to dual wield. The duel did not last long however, as halfway across the galaxy, Darth Sidious executed Order 66, dictating that the clones immediately kill all Jedi. Clone Commander CC-3527 and his troopers raised their blasters to bring an end to their former leaders, although Master Ternath realized what has happening fast enough to react and deflect blaster bolts with his lightsaber. He managed to protect his Padawan and killed a few clones but did not last very long and took multiple shots, instantly killing him. Feeling sympathetic for Jedaana Lokka and knowing that the war was lost anyways, General Zagoonga quickly grabbed a blaster and shot at the clones. He then threw an electrostaff to impale one of clones, and Zagoonga told Jedaana to follow him in order to survive.
Commander Fang, who had lost his right arm fighting Master Ternath, ordered the other two Venators to fire at the Pride of Frenzan in order to kill Padawan Lokka. The non-clone crew hesitated to do so, but obeyed after being informed that they would be executed if they did not follow orders. As the Pride of Frenzan was being torn apart, Yosip Zagoonga and Jedaana Lokka reached an escape pod to flee the ship. Their escape pod was fired upon, although there were many other escape pods being used by distressed droids and a C-9979 landing craft on the underside of the Pride of Frenzan was attempting to flee. The landing craft was heavily damaged and most escape pods were destroyed, although Zagoonga and Lokka were fortunate enough to survive and make it to the surface.
Aftermath[]
Although no lifeforms were initially detected due to the system being sabotaged by a treasonous crew member who believed that Order 66 was wrong, CC-3527 still decided to send a search party down. They found no evidence, and Jedaana Lokka would later be listed as a potential survivor of Order 66 by the Inquisitorius. Yosip Zagoonga and Jedaana Lokka later found the Lagobah base and established the Lagobah rebel cell, an early resistance group to oppose the Galactic Empire. TZ-948, although initially deactivated, had survived the battle and was eventually reawaken. Upon learning that General Zagoonga was working with a Jedi, the tactical droid, unaware of the war's end, reactivated many battle droids and began devising a plan to kill General Zagoonga. The Lagobah rebel cell ended up lasting about eighteen years, until they were discovered and destroyed by the Empire during the Attack on Lagobah.
