So, these mongrel creatures believe they can scare us with their cheap parlour tricks. Let our nukes demonstrate what we think of their little show.
—Vergulva
It is time, sisters! War is upon us! We shall tear the flesh from the mangled corpses of our enemies that lie dead at our fleet, drink of their life-blood and gain glory in battle and war!
—Storm Ironwings addressing her troops
The Battle of Hypori was a battle of the Cruentusian War that occurred just after the Battle of Shattered Ridge. Retreating to the nearby world of Hypori to lick their wounds, the Zayre discovered to their horror that said world was occupied by a sizable Srav Federation force, which interpreted the Zayre arrival as a hostile invasion and fought back. In response to Srav nuclear weaponry, the Zayre were forced to use their most powerful abilities, using their ability in the force to combat Srav technology.
Beginnings[]
Er, begging comrade Vergulva's forgiveness, we report that we have spotted flying women with wings...
—A Srav soldier upon spotting incoming Zayre
In the name of the Great Warlordess, we see fire hurlers and flame spitters in the arms of the enemy! We are fighting with the sun!"
"Then wrench the sun from the heavens we shall, and leave it smouldering at our feet!
—Zayre soldiers upon seeing the Srav Federation.
The Zayre, having won the Battle of Shattered Ridge had seen a large number of their troops killed and, needing some way to retreat and lick their wounds, they fled to the nearby planet of Hypori, a planet controlled by the Srav Federation, which was using it as a staging area for their counterattack on the Necasian Military, following a recent battle on Dagobah. The Sravs, mistaking the Zayre for a Necasian invasion force, attacked them as soon as their early warning systems picked them up, the fearsome Nataska Vergulva showing no inclination to negotiate. In true Zayre fashion, the Zayre immediately, and ferociously, fought back, retreating to bases on the planets southern side. In response, Nataska prepared Srav nuclear weapons for launch, priming and installing nuclear installations and systems to bombard Zayre bases. Without the exact coordinates of the bases however, the Federation were unable to bombard most of the bases and, taking advantage of the blindness of the Federation, the Zayre used their abilities with the force to gather a great muster of Zayre forces to summon up a freak lightning storm to hit one of the Federations nuclear weapon installations. Unfortunately, the Federation managed to get their nuclear weapons undercover, and the attack was a failure.
The battle[]
Initial moves[]
What? These things don't even use guns? Eh, we can relax, comrades, they will be--
—A Srav soldier seconds before being killed a Zayre Elite Honor Guard
Warlordess? The exotic scent of their flesh is driving me into a frenzy!
Then feast my sister, and we shall drive them off this planet!
—Warlordess Storm Ironwings talking to a Zayre soldier
With the battle now underway proper, both sides began to make their moves. The Sravs dispatched several Molot walkers to pinpoint Zayre locations. Although most of the Molots were destroyed by Zayre-controlled lightning, they succeeded, and the Sravs used their Okols to nuke several Zayre locations. Despite their losses, the Zayre moved in, using storm clouds as cover, and engaged the Srav front lines. Immediately, the Sravs brought out their big guns, deploying their massive Kurtev tanks. The Zayre responded by attacking, reluctant to allow the Federation to know where any of their camps were, and they moved in battle formation towards them. Upon engaging the enemy, the Zayre employed moves in an attempt to disrupt Srav lines, taking to the air. This forced the Srav soldiers to look up, leaving them open to a surprise ground attack from the Zayre, who, in the first wave, cut down swathes of the Srav's before the Srav's finally turned their tanks upon the Zayre, evening them out. The blood of the enemies drove the Zayre into a battle frenzy, and they attacked the Srav's with new soldiers, bringing down blasts of lightning upon the tanks.
However, the tanks soon managed to keep themselves sufficiently out of the way, and managed to cut many Zayre down. Realizing that there was little that could be won with a useless gesture of bravery, Storm Ironwings ordered a vanguard to stay and hold up the Federation whilst the Zayre beat a retreat back to their base. The ferocity of the vanguard held the Federation in place for numerous hours before the vanguard was finally slaughtered, leaving the path open for the Srav's.
The Sravs push forward[]
Greetings, comrade. I am Nataska Vergulva, and you mongrels have committed great crimes against the Srav people. For this, you will now die. I bid you goodbye.
"If there is one word that I have learnt in your language that sums you up perfectly, it is this. Filth. I shall enjoy tearing your soft flesh apart!
—Nataska to Ironwings
Feeling confident that the battle was virtually on, Vergulva advanced forward herself, along with several Srav tank divisions, using her sniper rifle to take down any Zayre that got too near, whilst charging at the Zayre base. Okols launched several low-yield tactical nuclear weapons that destroyed the already inadequate Zayre defenses. By now, Ironwings had ordered a full Zayre retreat, and was now focusing upon keeping the Sravs at bay. Using her weather control skills, she managed to use lightning to destroy several incoming Srav nukes in flight, although the radiation still took its toll. Upon hearing that the hero of the enemy was at the gates of the Zayre camp herself, she immediately headed over, her ego appealing to her greatly. Missiles from Srav Drakuv tanks were filling the air, so she was forced to land her troops, an aerial assault being out of the equation.
Amidst the chaos, Vergulva and Ironwings met in the battlefield. After the two briefly introduced themselves to one another, they commenced battle. Vergulva switched her rifle to rapid-fire mode and started blazing away, but Ironwings merely used her blades and reflexes to deflect the incoming bullets. However, the rate at which Vergulva fired and reloaded prevented Ironwings from getting anywhere near, and the radiation from the nuclear-tipped bullets began to take their toll. Eventually, Ironwings got word that the last transport was just waiting for her, and she cooked up a dust storm to cover her escape. Within minutes, the last Zayre ship had escaped.
The Srav tanks and missiles were used fruitlessly to try and bring down the Zayre transport, however they brought down hardly any Zayre ships, and they, unsuspecting of attack, had no blockade or space fleet around the planet, allowing the Zayre to escape.
Aftermath[]
Having suffered another disaster, the Zayre were getting desperate. They had now made two enemies, one of which was capable of easily crushing them in their current state, however, given time to muster and recuperate, Ironwings was confident they could hold their own. Ironwings decided that they needed an ally, and fast. After obtaining information from interrogating random travelers, they learned that the Srav Federation had a major enemy: the Necasian Military. Not bothering to do further research, and going by the philosophy of 'my enemy's enemy is my friend', Ironwings announced to her fellows that she planned to make an alliance with the Necasians, much to the dispute of the Zayre.
Meanwhile, the radioactivity left over from Srav nukes would linger on the planet for millennia due to Hypori's sponge-like crust, creating radiation spots that would baffle geologists even by the time of the Galactic Republic.
