The Battle of Ganthel was an attempt by the New Republic to take control of the Imperial industrial world of Ganthel, in the Core Worlds, about three months after the Battle of Endor. Despite some initial successes the New Republic Starfleet failed to secure the system from the Imperial Navy after the death of its commander, who was killed when the Republic flagship was destroyed in a large kamikaze attack by TIE fighters. Ultimately the Battle of Ganthel set back New Republic efforts in the Core Worlds by several months due to the fleet losses.
