The Battle of Esseles was the final battle of the Successors War between the former Dark Lord Darth Proditor's fleet and Darth Krayt's armada.
Despite the death of their master on Coruscant two weeks previously, Proditor's followers rallied behind the commanding officer of Darth Proditor's flagship; Commander Bayeux.
Prelude[]
Following their disastrous defeat at Coruscant two weeks previously; the remnant of Darth Proditor's forces found themselves being chased out of the Decreton Empire. Despite still being the largest of the Sith factions, Proditor's fleets were defenseless without a leader and quickly fell to Darth Krayt's growing armada. Yet, by the time of the battle of Esseles, Proditor's fleet still proved a serious threat the galaxy.
Following their swift defeat at Chandrila Bayeux's forces retreated to Esseles and prepared themselves for the final battle.
If Bayeux was victorious Darth Krayt's regime would be seriously wounded and the Successors War could continue for many more years. If Krayt returned victorious then the entire Sith Empire would become his domain.
The battle[]
Fully prepared, Proditor's fleet waited for the encroaching armada. With Darth Krayt en route to Kuat to capture to shipyards in orbit of the planet; Darth Wyyrlok had been placed in command of the Sith armada tasked with destroying Bayeux's force.
As Wyyrlok's forces approached Bayeux order half of his force to hide on the other side of the planet and remain their until called for. Despite protests for many of his subordinates and even some Sith Lords the fleet divided and half retreated behind the planet.
When Wyyrlok's force finally arrived Bayeux order his remaining vessels to engage Wyyrlok's armada. As the two fleets meet Wyyrlok noticed immediately that Bayeux's force was several times smaller than it was at the battle at Chandrila. Suspicious, he ordered one of his Decreto-class Super Star Destroyers and his flagship —The Conquerer— to circle around the planet of Esseles and discover the location of the remaining warships.
Surprise attack[]
As The Conquerer circled around the planet it found itself with several unidentified signals on its sensors. It was quickly discovered what these signals were.
As The Conquerer signaled back to Wyyrlok of the second enemy fleet it found itself under attack from several squadrons of Sith fighters. Taking heavy damage and suffering immense losses the captain of The Conquerer ordered the crew to abandon ship and head for the planet of Esseles. However, most of the crew did not escape before the vessel was destroyed.
Invasion of Calamar[]
With the space battle above raging and Darth Proditor's flagship suffering heavy damage, Wyyrlok ordered his ground forces to land on the planet's surface and take the capital city of Calamar (which was at that point under the late Darth Proditor's control).
After several hours heavy fighting and the destruction of Darth Proditor's flagship the planet surrendered. With Esseles under Darth Wyyrlok's control and the sector secure, Darth Krayt was free to move his forces towards Kuat.
