The Battle of Almania was fought between the allied forces of Almania and the Scourges of Those Bad Guy People, against the Sith Order of Decreto. It would show the besieged members of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances that resistance was ultimately useless against someone as powerful as the Sith.
Almania would find itself a member of the Decreton Empire and all of its resources would be sent to their new new Sith masters for their grandiose schemes. Future historians would look back at this battle and say that it wasn't a battle fought between fleets and starfighters, but it was more between the wills of the two sides' leaders: Darth Abeonis and Nathaniel Kenobi Solo. Although, Nathan lost in the end, his resolve for ousting the Sith rose exponentially, while Abeonis was content with the victory and the temporary loss of a fellow strategist who, in a different lifetime, he could have called friend.
The battle also saw the end of many feuds that had been boiling against others since before the Black Fleet Crisis. Such long-standing rivalries came to an end. Some tragic, like the passion-fueled duel between Ada Karr and Darth Bosszú. Others, brought an end to a necessary evil and strengthened the bonds of friendship, as was the case for Ichi Go and Renton Thur'ston in their duel against Darth Gloed and Darth Divat. With the end of these, the Jedi would gain power, but would also be reminded of how far one could go to attain victory.
Pre-Battle[]
Calm Before the Storm[]
Following the defeat of the Ottiumigos Centrality in the Battle of Novus Kamino Prime, Jedi Master Nathaniel Kenobi Solo had gone into a self-exile with the fleeing members of the broken government of Novus Kamino Prime. Among his followers were several Jedi Knights who had avoided capture, the Mandalorians, and the last of the clonetroopers.
For six years, they fought off every Sith vessel they came across and scuttled shipping operations within the Decreton Empire. But during that entire time, they never had a place to go to really hide, until they reached Almania and destroyed a minor Sith task force sent to subjugate the planet. Anxious to please their deliverers, the Almanians had given their saviors a base on Almania's moon of Pydyr.
This proved to be a boon to the organization's plans for future strikes, and it allowed Nathan time to work on convincing the Fallanassi that to remain neutral would only get them killed. The leader of the Fallanassi, Folapii, refused to join Nathan's group and threatened to alert the Sith to their presence there if they asked the Fallanassi for their allegiance ever again.
Unfortunately, a young Fallanassi with delusions of grandeur, contacted Darth Abeonis personally. He told of the agreement made between Nathan and the Almanians. In a seemingly rare gesture of gratitude, Abeonis allowed the man to relocate his family before he would assault Almania by giving him a ship for them to escape.
Meanwhile, Jedi Masters Ichi Go and Renton Thur'ston had had a premonition of the planet's destruction and of their demise at the hands of two of their most hated enemies: Darth Gloed and Darth Divat. They quickly alerted Nathan about that and he began an evacuation of Almania, but, as there was a shortage of available ships to transport civilians, it would take many weeks for a full evacuation. The Fallanassi male who had betrayed the planet and its moon Pydyr began to have a guilty conscience and was going to tell of his involvement in the attack when he was struck in the back of the head—Abeonis had betrayed him by installing a squad of SpecOps on board the ship.
The SpecOps then proceeded to the planet so they could eliminate Almania's planetary shield as a factor in the coming battle. With minimal resistance, Almania was an open target for orbital bombardment. Racing against time, civilians killed others for a chance off-planet and cursed the name of the Sith.
Nathan met with Folapii for the last time, asking for his assistance, if at the very least, just for the battle ahead. Folapii spit in his face and told him the Fallanassi were impervious to harm. Nathan sarcastically replied:
Can I quote you on that?
—Nathan
Furious at Nathan's outburst, Folapii forced him off Pydyr, but he soon found that his decision was not a popular one among the Fallanassi. A faction of dissidents had surrounded his home and forced him to sign a declaration of war against the Sith. The Fallanassi had finally acknowledged that their lives were at stake.
Kriffin' Sith, always arrive before the party starts!
—Nathan
Unfortunately, the Sith arrived sooner than expected and the populace's already palpable confusion and fear increased a thousandfold. Abeonis had arrived with his fleet, more specifically The Soiyo, sure to bring the planet to its knees by itself.
Abeonis issued an ultimatum: all responsible for the travesty would unconditionally surrender or perish. Nathan issued his own ultimatum: he would fight Abeonis for the right to control the planet and its people. Abeonis accepted, because the odds were definitely within his favor.
Starting Point[]
Duel With A Dark Lord[]
Nathan entered The Soiyo accompanied by Jaki Grawn, Derran Karr, Ichi Go, and Mariz Kenobi Solo, while Abeonis came flanked side-by-side with multiple Sith troopers and Sith Knights. Each exchanged a glance and a handshake, no matter how much they hated the other, they would still keep it civil.
Been aching to do something like this for a while, Abeonis. Pity you didn't bring Micail into this massacre, I could have used the revenge. Would've brought some much needed closure to me.
—Nathan
Which is precisely why I didn't bring him. Don't think for a second you have the better tactical mind here, Nathan. I know that you're just stalling for time, and I also know that if Micail was indeed present in the battle, you would have dealt with my forces much more swiftly. Ready to die, Jedi?
—Abeonis
I'm no Jedi, so you'll have to rephrase your question, dictator.
—Nathan
With that, the two were at each other's throats like a pair of rival rancors, awaiting the prize of vengeance, or subjugation. Both attackers were blurs to their companions, making so much use of the Force, that the room became damaged with wires hanging out of their usual spots and lights flickering with the slow, but steady, loss of power.
Both combatants were evenly matched, Nathan's lightsabers gave him a slight edge to him for the victor, but Abeonis wasn't the Dark Lord of the Decreton Empire for nothing. His knowledge of Djem So and Vaapad allowed him to regain fallen ground, even making Nathan back away a couple of times—a very rare occurrence.
Neither attacker could touch the other, it was a battle more of wills and endurance, than one of strength. Red alerts began to flood the ship as Nathan's true plan had been brought into fruition: the Almanian defense fleet had just jumped out of hyperspace, and had blown a giant hole in the transfixed Sith navy, allowing the refugee ships to escape.
Don't think for a second you have the better tactical mind here, Nathan. I know that you're just stalling for time. What was that?
Ha! Not only is that the second time you've used that statement, but whose got the better tactical mind now, nerf herder?
—Abeonis and Nathan as one of Abeonis' ships is destroyed
I ask the same, Nathan. As you should be receiving numerous reports of destroyed Almanian heavy cruisers in a matter of seconds.
—Abeonis
True to his word, Nathan did receive reports of damaged heavy cruisers, it seemed the Sith had figured him out and decided to hide a fleet of their own in hyperspace, ready to pounce upon the pouncer.
Kriff.
—Nathan
Nathan quickly ordered a retreat back to the ship they had used to reach The Soiyo, but he heard the sound of the hangar bays' guns blasting it into oblivion.
Your forced are routed, your plans ruined, and the people you sought to protect are dying, Nathan. Now, about that surrender.
—Abeonis
Well, Abeonis, it seems you've outsmarted me today. You should be proud of yourself, not many people can say that. True to your word, my forces have been decimated and lie dead, but I learned something from Nom Anor: it's always good to have another backup plan. Later.
—Nathan
With that comment, he ghosted his party away onto the Who's Next? and gave a signal to some old friends to come out of hiding. Out of the dark side of Pydyr, Fallanassi and Galactic Alliance ships came pouring out to help relieve them.
The Past Must Be Dealt With[]
In this duel that followed, Nathan, I was finally able to get rid of the past. My family and its past woes and worries were forever destroyed and I was finally free. I could begin my life anew.
—Private conversation between Nathaniel Kenobi Solo and Ichi Go following the Battle of Almania
Following the escape from The Soiyo, Ichi Go went back to his and Renton's personal vessel, the Hybrid Idiots. He found Renton meditating in his quarters instead of fighting. Puzzled and angered at the same time, Ichi asked why he wasn't helping Nathan and the rest of them fight. Renton replied that he had been calling their enemies, Gloed and Divat to come and end their feud, as he, for one, was tired of the fight over things that happened years ago.
Angry that Renton had actually invited them over, Ichi said that the only reason he wanted them here was because Renton wanted to fight, beat, and then own Divat as his wife. Surprised at his friend's accusations over his character, Renton replied that he was indeed in love with Divat, but that would have no bearing if she could not be turned; Renton would kill her if need be. Still unconvinced, Ichi went to the cockpit, and then to the escape pod, if Renton was dumb enough to have asked them to come to their ship, then he was stupid enough to ask Gloed to come to Almania's surface to fight. Seeking his adversary through the Force, Ichi presented his proposition, to which Gloed accepted a bit too eagerly.
As soon as he landed on Almania, Ichi knew that all was not as it had seemed, and not because the people had all fled and there was barely any life on the planet's surface. There was definitely something more sinister in the making. Searching through the Force, Ichi found that he was not as alone as he had originally thought, something very powerful was drawing near him and it wasn't Gloed.
Sensing it again, Ichi went to investigate, and soon found that he had been confronted with one of Gloed's most fiercest creations: Hollow, an attempt at making an all-powerful, mindless Sithspawn that followed only him. The attempt had been successful, although, as far as Ichi knew, he hadn't had success the second time he had attempted it. Raising his specially-made vibrosword, Zangetsu, Ichi told the creature that it was going to die. The creature merely grunted and attacked, causing Ichi to move back and rethink his next move.
Ichi Go sheathed Zangetsu for a moment and ignited his lightsaber, as he knew the Sithspawn was resistant to his vibrosword from past experiences. His dark red blade shining brightly in Almania's light, Ichi Go made the first move and swiped at Hollow's feet, but missed, as the beast's agility and stamina were far better than his.
Ichi began examining the beast's movements as he fought it. More often than not, it left its left leg exposed in the fight, but that was always a feint, as it could attempt to bite Ichi if ever tried to exploit that. Fortunately, what the creature didn't know, was that its mouth was always left open when it moved its left foot, leaving it open to an attack. Smilingly smugly, Ichi pretended to aim for Hollow's left leg, but as soon as the Sithspawn had noticed that and attacked, he had pulled back and stabbed the creature through the mouth, reaching its brain and effectively killing the monstrosity.
Come on! Is that all you've got, Gloed? Come here and fight m—
—Ichi Go attempting to goad Gloed into a fight, and getting more than he bargained for
Ichi Go, brash after defeating Hollow, sheathed his lightsaber and yelled in defiance at Gloed, attempting to get him to come out and fight him. While he was yelling, he was barely able to react in time and get out Zangetsu to counter Gloed's stealth attack. Announcing that he was there to finally end his family's shame, Gloed sheathed his lightsaber and brought out his own vibrosword, a dark and twisted version of Zangetsu.
Ichi's self-control lost at the sight of the desecration before him, he lost all of his thought processes and attacked Gloed with a blind rage. Laughing the entire time, Gloed goaded Ichi on and on, attempting to make him fall to the dark, and then intending to kill him when he did so. Ichi, however, informed Gloed that he had no intention of falling, as his true Master, Nathan, had always shown him ways to use his anger for the betterment of all. He didn't see things in shades of black or white, he saw them in grey, and planned to make sure Gloed would know this as well, because he was going to turn him to the light.
Chuckling at the idea that Ichi could turn him to the light, Gloed Force pushed Ichi into a nearby butte and slashed after him. Remaining stubborn, Ichi said that no one person was beyond redemption, no matter how much he hated himself for saying that after what Gloed had done to Ichi's Human mother years ago. Beaming with pride, Gloed said he would have done it a thousand times over, just to see the look on Ichi's face when he ended her life.
Refusing to let that coerce him to join the dark side, Ichi Go fought on. Noting that Gloed usually left his head open to attack every now and then, Ichi planned to swipe at it at the appropriate time. Slathering him with Force lightning, Ichi then used the momentary pause to his advantage and attacked—aiming for Gloed's head. But, instead of the quick and easy victory he had foreseen, Ichi was stabbed by Gloed, who had cast an illusion over himself, so that Ichi would go for it.
Surrounded by his own blood, Ichi began to heal himself as fast as possible, but, instead of the attack he thought Gloed would bring, he saw that Gloed had brought more of his failed attempts to create another Hollow. Finding himself surrounded, outmanned, and outgunned, Ichi prepared to die. However, he felt the spirit of his mother calling out to him, offering him her strength and devotion and became heartened.
Knowing that the spirit of his mother was with him, Ichi Go began to seal his wound and awaited the Sithspawn's next move. The tall, masked, horrible creatures soon swarmed every possible escape route he had and awaited his next move.
Bring it on!
—Ichi Go yelling his defiance to the Sithspawn
The Sithspawn took his command to heart and swarmed him and began to suck away his life force with their dark side energies. Ichi Go, however, began to ignite his lightsaber and brought out Zangetsu again, intending to use them as his Master would use two lightsabers in Jar'Kai. The Sithspawn closest to him became his first victim, with ten more falling suit, until the other ones began to flee. Hearing the raging voice of Gloed forcing them back to fight, Ichi Go smiled.
Ichi simply waited in the same spot he had remained in since they had first appeared, except this time, he was sitting on the ground and meditating. Apparently, Renton was in need of help, but he was in no condition to do so. He also felt the anguish of Ada Karr and despaired, the woman deserved better.
The Sithspawn finally returned, and Ichi still remained sitting, as if he could have cared less about what was about to happen. Dauntless, the Sithspawn attacked, but the first assault wave soon found itself in no less than twenty neatly sliced pieces. By using the Force, Ichi had taken large chunks of the ground beneath him and thrown them towards his opponents.
Screaming to his creations to continue their attack, Gloed was getting a little bit frightened. Where was the bleeding profusely, almost dead, Ichi Go he had left to be finished off? What had happened in such a short time for him to have regained his strength and composure? Questions better left for later, as Ichi Go had just defeated the last of the Sithspawn Gloed had brought with him. Cursing him to Chaos, Gloed brought out his twisted Zangetsu and jumped from the hill he had been standing on to get to Ichi, if his minions could not end this, then he would.
Smiling, Ichi once again sheathed his lightsaber in favor of his vibrosword, and told Gloed that he had better prepare to die. Gloed revealed that he would stop holding back; if he stabbed Ichi again, it was to kill, not to wound. Ichi replied that he would show Gloed the same courtesy he had received in the brawl, except he would look better doing it. Moving the conversation to Gloed's vanity proved to be fortuitous for Ichi Go, as it was Gloed's one and only weakness: his pride in himself and his Arkanian heritage.
After thirty minutes had passed of continuous and almost tedious fighting, Ichi began to press his advantage and skewered Darth Gloed through the stomach during midjump and the Sith Knight fell to the ground. Content with just stabbing him, Ichi moved towards Gloed's dying body and started to ask a question.
Gloed, could you ever find it inside of yourself to forgive me for my actions today?
—Ichi Go
I will never forgive you for what you have done to my family, monstrosity! I will have my revenge! As long as I live, you shall have no forgiveness from me or an acceptance that we are brothers!
—Darth Gloed
With those last, horrible words of arrogance, Darth Gloed finally succumbed to the darkness within him and died. His body was surrounded and engulfed by the dark side energies that had been almost omnipresent when he was near. Chaos would have a new visitor soon.
But I have forgiven you...
—Ichi Go
Helpless to prevent his half-brother's death, Ichi walked to the escape pod he had come to Almania on and noticed it had been destroyed by a stray laser shot from one of the Sith vessels. Seeing Gloed's vessel nearby, unscathed, he went to it and departed the planet, but kept the burden with him. He wondered how Renton had done against Divat.
To Rid One's Self of Burdens[]
I thank whatever high power there is in this Galaxy for what just happened to me today, Nathan. Without the things that had happened in my life, I am sure that I never would have been prepared for what had happened during the battle. I am glad that I did not have to kill the woman I love. The Force is truly amazing and mysterious.
—Renton Thur'ston during a private conversation with Nathaniel Kenobi Solo
While Ichi Go left the Hybrid Idiots in the escape pod to make sure Gloed never came to attack the vessel, Renton watched, knowing that he and his friend would never be the same after their respective—almost inevitable—duels. Hopefully, they would both come out better for this. However, he wished that he could have found a way to prevent this sooner.
On a diplomatic mission to Teevan, he had found the woman of his dreams, however, she did not return the feelings. Eureka Crailaon had instead rebuked his advances and had almost stabbed him through the heart. Barely escaping from her, he had finally been able to figure out who she was.
In 14 ABY, the Thur'ston and Crailaon clans had met in a climactic battle on the plains of Teevan. The Thur'stons had been able to annihilate the Crailaons, albeit save two: a woman and her newborn child. That child had been Eureka, and her mother was the wife of the Crailaon's leader, but any hopes of ruling Teevan had been destroyed by the death of her husband.
Teaching her daughter early on in the ways of hate, the woman found herself involved with the scandal that nearly rocked Teevan to total civil war. The Thur'ston clan had always been more alien-friendly and had even welcomed inter-species relationships, as the leader of the clan was noted for doing by marrying a Human. The Crailaons had been anti-alien and were among the minority of Teevan.
The woman, filled with rage, went to kidnap the Thur'ston leader's son in 15 ABY. The kidnapping was a success and she had taken him to Nar Shaddaa, where she hoped that he would end up either a criminal or dead, either way would please her. She left Nar Shaddaa with Eureka and eventually found that the boy had been taken away along with another by a mysterious Ho'Din.
Her revenge crushed, she committed suicide, but made sure to leave her testimony to her daughter, who was adopted by a wealthy Teevan family. The family was a bunch of explorers and made their way to the Unknown Regions, where they accidentally stumbled upon Nerezza and were promptly captured and killed, save for Eureka, who was Force-sensitive. She was taught by the Sith had taken the name Darth Divat, after learning from the holorecording her mother had given her of what must be done to the Thur'stons.
She had gone to Teevan some time after and killed the Thur'stons, but had been stopped by Renton. Filled with rage, she announced that he was next and had faded into obscurity over the next couple of years, during which she had met up with Darth Gloed and their mutual hatred made them the perfect team of assassins. Now, Renton had to worry about somehow finding a way to redeem her, or end up killing the woman he loved.
Renton felt a disturbance in the Force, and knew that Gloed and Ichi Go had started fighting. He saw Divat's ship come towards his and watched as her form began to slowly come into his quarters. Greeting her, he asked her on whether or not they could discontinue the fight. She replied that they could, if he just submitted and let her kill him. Sighing, Renton ignited his gold lightsaber and watched as Divat's red one followed suit.
Striking their lightsabers together, he threw a desk at her, while she fell back and ignited it with a grenade. In such close quarters, that was almost suicidal, but both had made distinct shields to protect themselves from the other. Racing out of his room to prevent future damage there, Renton told the ship to go to autopilot and head towards the Yacht of Death, a secret Almanian testing facility for robotic weapons.
Wondering why he had done so, Divat interrogated him, but Renton merely replied that he had a plan and she was going to fall for it, or die along with him. Divat replied that it would be a nice compromise to die along with him, rather than to die without killing him. Seeing his love rebutted yet again, Renton engaged her in combat.
Across the conflict, they fought, the Hybrid Idiots going to its destination basically unhindered by either side. Attempting to talk to Divat about the pain the two had suffered over their lives, Renton said that he would never have done what his parents had, and would have done whatever was possible to have prevented the deaths of Divat's clan. Divat claimed that they no longer mattered, all that mattered was killing him and ridding the Galaxy of the Thur'ston's presence.
Almost resigned to the fact that she would not turn to the light, Renton beckoned the ship to dock inside of the Almanian facility. As the ship docked, he Force pushed Divat away and exited the Hybrid Idiots. Awaiting her to come, he sent a probe to see if the rumors he had heard were correct, and was able to coerce one of the technicians who had remained there to evacuate after planting multitudes of explosives around the facility.
Seeking to converse with her again, he told of how he had fallen in love with her and that he didn't want her to die. He also revealed that he didn't care anything about the war anymore, all he wanted was to be with her. Once again, Divat rebuffed his love, but this time, she was a little delayed. Renton then ran, while she began to follow suit and Force grabbed a grenade and threw it at him. Renton was able to push it out of the way and warned her against doing so again.
Enraged, she followed him to the depths of the facility, where Renton suddenly stopped. He announced once again his love for her and just how far he was ready to go to get her to realize that she loved him too. Puzzled at his announcement, she wondered whether or not if he was inebriated. He replied that even all the alcohol in the Galaxy couldn't sway him to act this way, he was doing this for her and the future life they could have.
Still perplexed, Divat was about to chase after him when she felt the facility shudder, the first of the explosives had gone off. Renton then presented the Nihr'Vash, a gigantic robot capable of getting them off of the facility in time to escape. The catch, though, was that it had to have two pilots, less than two would make it unresponsive and they would surely die in the coming firestorm.
Divat, unsure of what to do next, experienced flashback after flashback regarding her life before her eyes. She saw men, women, and children she had killed just because she had wanted to do so. She saw entire clans go missing, their names lost forever to history, while they could have led fulfilling lives if she hadn't interfered. She also saw her mother, taunting her for even thinking that she would turn to the light.
Suffering from a mental breakdown, Divat fell to the ground, ashamed of what she had done. However, the specter of her mother remained, lashing out at her and telling of how she had been a failure all of her life. Noting that it wasn't her real mother and that it was only a manifestation of her own hate and anger, Divat cleansed it by remembering and hearing the voice of Renton, who was trying to help her fight it. Proclaiming that she did love Renton after all, she finally purged the rage away at least temporarily. Hugging Renton, she sobbed and told him of how sorry she was.
We're both going to be a whole lot sorrier if we don't get out of here now.
—Renton
Hurrying to the Nihr'Vash's cockpit, they managed to reach it in time and gain control. Blasting away from the facility, which soon exploded behind them, Renton felt the death of Darth Gloed and knew that they should go to the surface to find Ichi Go. They landed a little aways from where they had thought he was, but a communication through the Force let Ichi know where they were. As they waited, the two held hands with the Nihr'Vash behind them, awaiting for Ichi to recover them.
Mercy Killing[]
Ada Karr and Holk Fey'lya—now known as Darth Bosszú—had been sworn rivals ever since the Confederation-Galactic Alliance War. After failing to gain her hand in marriage to consolidate his role as leader of Clan Fey'lya, Holk attempted to kill her. Ada, however, was able to escape and Holk swore he would get his revenge. After joining up with the Sith as soon as they had entered the known Galaxy, Holk had taken the name of Darth Bosszú and swore to kill Ada.
His Sith overlords encouraged this private feud and even sent him to kill her several times, however, he never gained success in any of them. Unfortunately for Ada, every time he failed, merely attuned his anger and his rage even more so, as he knew that one day, he would win and she would die. Ada, reaching the age of ninety-three, didn't enjoy being chased and hounded and decided that the attacks would stop at Almania. Bosszú was more than happy to oblige.
Sensing that he was actually remorseful via the Force, Ada went to his flagship, Pride of Kothlis, against the warnings of her good friend Nathan. She ventured through the battle and found that Bosszú was waiting for her on the bridge and that he was meditating. Hopeful, she asked Bosszú if he actually wanted to be redeemed. Bosszú's reply was a wry smile and the ignition of his lightsaber.
Calmly accepting the treachery Bosszú had just shown, Ada ignited her lightsaber and awaited Bosszú's next move. For the first time in six years, he had decided to find her and fight and she hoped to make it the last. She felt something stirring behind her and was barely able to move out of the way of the chair he had just sent flying towards her. However, she had lost her composure and Bosszú had taken advantage—by slicing off one of her toes. Howling in pain, she wheeled around and swung back, knocking off his trademark mask, of which he had made based on the design of Revan's.
Astonished, she saw for the first time in twenty-nine years, the face of Holk Fey'lya. It looked almost exactly like reports of Emperor Palpatine. The crippled Bothan's face was the result of pent up rage and as a result of his rage, his physical features had paid the price. Appalled, she tried reasoning with him again, but Bosszú would hear none of it.
Instead of answering her with words, he lunged forward, albeit without his lightsaber. For the next twenty minutes, the two fought fist and foot, as their lightsabers were left discarded on the bridge of the Pride of Kothlis. It seemed as if the bridge's main systems were going haywire and the people directly responsible for that were the two duelists, whose high concentration of Force energies had begun to damage the delicate equipment.
Eventually, the two began to tire and became more sluggish in their attacks, causing those who were able to view the battle to think of it mostly as a comedy sketch instead of an actual fight between the Jedi and the Sith. Bosszú still had some life in him, as Ada discovered to her horror, when he pinned her against himself and started to choke the life out of her. Seeking a possible solution, Ada Karr decided to make the ultimate sacrifice. By Force grabbing her lightsaber, she ignited it and ran it through the both of them.
Slowly, the two combatants started to die. Hated enemies and they shared only one thing in common: they were only mortal. Bosszú was the first to go, but before he did, he was quoted.
Thank you.
—Darth Bosszú to Ada Karr as he is about to die
Ada then died peacefully, content in the fact that she knew her family was capable of escaping the battle alive. She sent a message to Nathan via the Force and told him to save the Jedi from falling. Unfortunately, Nathan had enough issues on his own to worry about.
It's On[]
Not one, not even two, but three hidden fleets in the same system? Tactical genius unlike any I've ever met! Unfortunately, in the end it didn't mean much.
— Fifth Republic Admiral Torsko Hu'lya commenting on the battle
Finally reaching his vessel, Nathan now had to deal with the Sith. Thankfully, with three fleets under his command to combat Abeonis' two, Nathan felt better. But still, even though he had numbers on his side, the Sith had the better firepower and the overall morale of the Galactic Alliance troopers wasn't exactly at an all-time high. The Sith, on the other hand, were weary from constant battle after endless battle with seemingly infinite foes—some were worried that this would be a repeat of the disastrous Battle of Praesitlyn—but they still wielded the power of the dark side to channel away the negative emotions of their own troopers to their opponents.
The Fallanassi proved to be very ineffective against the superior Sith, who knew how to fight, especially against a wounded foe. Nathan moved them away to support the refugees and brought the hardened pilots of the Galactic Alliance to the front. Fortunately, most of Almania had been evacuated, with only a few iconoclasts, deserters, and collaborators remaining on the surface.
Growing tired of the battle, Abeonis called for a full-frontal assault, bent on destroying the man responsible for the battle: Nathan. Realizing Abeonis was targeting him, Nathan ordered his fleets to get prepped for an emergency hyperspace jump.
The Fallanassi were the first to leave, as they were protecting the refugee ships. They were followed by the Galactic Alliance, Mandalorian, and Almanian ships. When Abeonis sent men to follow them, they tore apart when they attempted to jump, as an Alliance Interdictor had just joined the battle at the very outskirts of the Almanian system.
Coming very close to the end of his patience, Abeonis focused his forces on the destruction of Nathan's vessel. The Soiyo reached the Who's Next?, which had seemingly become a derelict, but he still felt Nathan's lifesigns within and fired all guns on the vastly inferior vessel.
Just as soon as the "vessel" exploded, multiple missile like objects burst forth and gave a message: Hello, honorable leaders of Those Bad Guy People! You've opened the cap to the wrong answer. Please try again later. (It later turned out that the Fallanassi had recreated the ship utilizing their unique Force Illusion power and had even gone so far as to accurately be able to mimic the lifesigns of a humanoid male.)
It was told that Abeonis' anger was, well, suffice to say it wasn't a good time to be on board The Soiyo's bridge. Nathan had cheated him of his true prize: the destruction of an already dead planet, and there weren't any prisoners to bring back for his troubles.
Although this battle was later labeled as a victory for the Sith, the humiliation Abeonis suffered caused later scholars to say that in terms of psychological warfare, Nathan had just achieved his personal Endor. For the Sith soldiers, the battle was, psychologically at least, another Praesitlyn to them, and some even garnered the courage to desert Abeonis, but most were hunted down and killed by his Hands.
Aftermath[]
Better than nothing.
—Nathan commenting on the outcome of the battle
Heavy losses were suffered on both sides, especially for the Scourges of Those Bad Guy People. More than half of their fleet had been destroyed and left behind because they were beyond repair. This served as a major blow to their ability to strike at any Sith ship, as they now had to protect the Almanian refugees and the Fallanassi. Eventually, they outfitted the refugee ships with weapons and continued their guerrilla war.
The Sith would herald this as a victory, but Abeonis rebuked them for doing so, as that was exactly what Nathan had wanted: the Sith to keep getting overconfident and make a mistake like he had in the battle. It was also during this time that Nathan would receive a new nickname from the younger Sith recruits: the Scourge of Decreto.
Many rivalries and feuds, stretching as far back as 14 ABY were brought to a close. The fight over the Fey'lya clan was finally ended as both parties were killed in their duel. The mutual hatred of Ichi Go and Darth Gloed also ended when Ichi defeated the crazed racist in battle. The last duel proved that love does indeed win over all, as Eureka Crailaon and Renton Thur'ston were married the year after the battle. Mortal enemies all of them, and from them were great ballads composed and used by the Jedi for many years after to teach of love, hate, passion, and forgiveness.
Unfortunately for the Galactic Alliance ships that had supported Nathan, they were nearly wiped out during the Battle of Coruscant. It was said that he and the Alliance leaders had had a falling out following the battle and even refused to help defend Coruscant.
The Scourges of Those Bad Guy People eventually folded after reaching the Galactic Commonwealth, where they helped to reshape and restore the broken Jedi Order. The Fallanassi and Almanians soon followed, where they relocated to Arabanth.
Behind the scenes[]
The idea for the Battle of Almania came after NKSCF saw Jasca Ducato and Jedi Master 76 hold a competition for largest battle article. Not to be outdone for already having the largest article on the site, NKSCF decided to outwit both of them and create the largest battle article, succeeding by a mere byte advantage.
