The B4 mega battle droid also known as simply the mega battle droid, was an advanced experimental battle droid model used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems late during the Clone Wars in limited numbers. It was one of the most independent, powerful, and expensive battle droids in galactic history.
Description[]
The B4 mega battle droid was designed to have the firepower and durability of a B3 ultra battle droid, the agility of a BX-series droid commando, and the intelligence of an ST-series super tactical droid. The B4 had more complex programming than any other droid in the B-series line, making it very intelligent but also causing numerous errors. It was often considered to be the most advanced battle droid ever made. At a staggering cost of 150,000 credits, the B4 mega battle droid was more expensive than any other battle droid with the exception of some vehicles controlled by a droid brain.
Despite being much smaller than the B3 ultra battle droid, it had a similar armament and just as strong yet much lighter armor. Similar to the B2 battle droid and B3, the mega battle droid had dual wrist blasters on its right arm, but unlike the B2 and B3, could use handheld weapons and was also very effective with them. The left arm was equipped with either a flamethrower or a retractable vibrosword. The B4 was also equipped with a small missile launcher mounted on its left shoulder. B4 mega battle droids carried multiple thermal detonators, and used them to neutralize large groups of enemies or to destroy small vehicles.
History[]
The B4 mega battle droid's designers wanted to make the droid very independent, intelligent, and powerful, so that it could even continue fighting if the Republic won the Clone Wars. The prototype model, B4-001, was constructed in 21 BBY. Several other prototypes were made until 20 BBY, when the B4 entered production at the Nitim droid factory. The model was still very experimental however, and many units were different. A few units, including B4-307, were altered to have a very complex droid brain.
The Nitim droid factory was destroyed early in the Outer Rim Sieges in 19 BBY, after approximately five-hundred units were made. Many B4 mega battle droids participated in the Battle of Coruscant, but they were deployed sparingly as no more B4 units were being manufactured.
When the shutdown command was issued during the Mission to Mustafar, some B4 mega battle droids were able to override the command. B4-307 established the Fonon V Separatist holdout, while other less independent B4s were acquired by the Galactic Empire for use at important instillations.
B4-307 went on to fight in the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the New Republic. B4-307 eventually believed that he was the only B4 mega battle droid left in the galaxy.
