The Assimilation of Onderon was the battle that sparked the war between the New Republic and the Death Watch in 18 ABY. After a demand to surrender was rejected, the Death Watch attacked Iziz and made their way into the Governor's Palace. After a short battle, Governor Kira surrendered to the Death Watch, giving leadership to the leader of the Death Watch, Theta. With Onderon at his command, the Death Watch were ready to truly start the war.

History[]

Surrender Rejected[]

I take it they wont surrender just yet.
—Theta, upon receiving the dead body of his envoy

Once Theta and the Death Watch had amassed enough credits from the Imperial Remnant, he sent an envoy to the Governor of Onderon, Weston Kira. The Death Watch envoy demanded that the Governor surrender to the might of the Death Watch. The Governor laughed and had the envoy killed. He sent the body back to Dxun, where Theta prepared for "plan B".

Bombarding[]

Is Iziz burning?
—Theta, wondering how his plan is working

Plan B was simple: Bomb the city of Iziz and begin sending landing parties to capture the capital. Theta had anticipated the Governor's refusal ahead of time and had prepared a missile station to be set-up where it could deal the most damage to the city. All he had to do after that was to wait for the station to line up with the capital.

Once the missile station and Iziz lined up, the Death Watch began to launch missile after missile into Iziz, killing soldiers and citizens alike. Then Death Watch soldiers were launched in drop ships, landing on the surface of Onderon and converging on the Governor's Palace.

Breaking the gates[]

I hope he surrenders now.
—Theta observing the destruction of Iziz

Once the Death Watch had made it to the gates of the Palace, Theta made his arrival. With the gates holding them back, Theta ordered for a demolitions team. With the demolitions set, the gates refused to budge. Theta ordered for another round on the gates, but yet again the det-packs failed to budge the door. With his patience faltering, Theta ordered for one last round of det-packs. With the third pack, the gates yet again failed to open. Theta, angry, launched another round of missiles to strike the city. Once the damage had been dealt, the door were easily blow open with a forth det-pack, revealing a hurting Onderon force. The Death Watch easily pushed forward, taking less casualties than the Palace Defenders. With their path clear, they marched to meet the Governor face to face.

Surrender Accepted[]

See, that wasn't so hard.
—Theta, upon hearing Governor Kira surrender

Theta marched into the audience room with his soldiers in tow, personally demanding the Governor's surrender. With the full might of the Death Watch at his neck, Governor Kira was given no choice but to surrender. Governor Kira gave his seat of power to Theta, making him Governor of Onderon. Theta had Weston thrown in jail, then preceded to merge the Onderon military into the Death Watch. With the threat of the public execution of Weston, plus the threat of their families' execution, the people of Onderon woefully accepted their new leader. The military was integrated into the Death Watch, increasing the size of the Death Watch once more. They didn't have a lot of time to rest, for Gilad Pellaeon sent him a message requesting help in invading Naboo.

Legacy[]

With the capture of Onderon, the Death Watch had proven themselves to be formidable foes for the New Republic. It also sent morality down amongst New Republic soldiers, and it would not be the last time either. For as the war drudged on, the Republic was soon to see more losses.
