History[]
Creation[]
The monastery was built in accordance with the peace treaty between the Tythonian people and the Republic after a conflict between the two. The monastery was created so that Republic soldiers could train in the ways of the Tythonian religion, known as the Force centuries later. The Monastery would remain as the Ashta Matha headquarters until 7,000 BBY.
Destruction[]
The Ashta Matha abandoned the Monastery after it was destroyed by a militant wing of the Ashta Matha order in a civil war between the militants and the main sect of the Ashta Matha. The militants wanted to control the Republic and have immediate gratification from the Republic for the deeds that they had been performing for four millennia. The main sect wanted to remain in its current role and did not seek out glory or recognition. The militant leader, Sultan Saladeen, and his followers fought Glanville and the mainstream Ashta Matha. Glanville defeated the Ashta Matha revolutionists whom he called the "Dark Crusaders" and pushed them to the unknown regions of the Outer Rim Territories. The Monastery was abandoned for fear of dark side corruption brought about by the Crusaders. The Ashta Matha changed their official name from Ashta Matha to the Jedi Knights of the Jedi Order, a popular nickname for them at the time. They hoped to put every trace of the schism behind them and instituted other naming reforms within the Order.
Behind the scenes[]
The Monastery was created by I'm the Chosen One as a precursor to the Jedi Temple and to help flesh out the reasons that the Jedi made Temples on Ossus and Coruscant. It also served to flesh out the Ashta Matha story as precursors to the Jedi Order. Subsequently, the author also felt that the Monastery was the perfect location for the schism that created the Crusaders, eventually the Sith, and the dark side. It also gave him a reason for them to leave Tython without rebuilding the temple.
