The Sith say the Force is the key to freedom, but they also claim to know which door that key unlocks. Unbeknownst to all Sith, my brother and I discovered the door is beyond their reach."
"So where is the door?"
"As far away from you or them as we can possibly run. Believe what you will, Jedi, but you will never know liberty as we have enjoyed it.
—Arkratt discusses his understanding of the Force with the Jedi Jarn Walon.
Arkratt was a Sith Pureblood and former Sith Apprentice during the time of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Once an unassuming and belittled Sith Apprentice, Arkratt slew his master and abandoned the Empire after becoming disillusioned with the Sith way of life, joined by his older brother Arkrason, and two began a life of self-imposed exile away from the Empire.
Biography[]
Arkratt was born in 20 BTC (3673 years before the Battle of Yavin), the youngest child of Sith Pureblood parents who lacked Force sensitivity. Unlike his parents, Arkratt and his older brother Arkrason were Force sensitives, and were quickly brought into the tutelage of the Sith Academy on Korriban. Arkratt was quickly identified as a powerful Force user, but his unassuming and introverted demeanour often left him at the bottom of the Academy's pecking order, and Arkratt regularly relied on the protection and support of his more popular brother to keep him alive.
After several miserable years in the Academy, Arkratt was eventually made the Apprentice of Lord Garash, a sadistic and temperamental Sith Lord who openly declared that he only selected Arkratt as an apprentice because his low status meant no other apprentices were available to him. While Garash's activites did allow Akratt to continue his interest in history and Sith lore, he was regularly the victim of Garash's violent outbursts, and grew increasingly disillusioned and distant from the Sith and the Empire. His only solace was the close bond he had with Arkrason, who visited him whenever possible and inspired him in his studies. Reminding Arkratt that all Sith were destined to either conquer their masters or die, Arkrason encouraged his younger brother to hone his abilities whenever possible.
Arkratt's relationship with Garash quickly detiorated in the last years of the Galactic War. During a trip to the war-torn planet of Exodeen, Garash and Arkratt were tasked by the Sith military command with locating a valuable piece of Republic intel. Arkratt eventually found the intel, a schematic for a prototype starfighter, in the ownership of its designer, a civilian engineer. Arkratt chose to spare the engineer's life and returned the intel to Garash. Garash received the praise for retrieving intel, then privately berated Arkratt as he hadn't captured the engineer. Finally finding his voice, Arkratt argued with his master. The argument turned violent, and Arkratt, in a fit of rage, killed Garash with a powerful bolt of Force lightning.
Arkratt confided in his brother, who came to meet him on Dromund Kaas. While Arkratt could now take Garash's mantle, he instead saw his master's death as an opportunity to escape the Sith, and voiced his intention to Arkrason. Arkrason, similarly disillusioned with the Empire, agreed to flee Imperial space with his brother, killing his own master Darth Natiss. As the War came to a chaotic end, the brothers slipped away from Dromund Kaas with what belongings they could find and fled to neutral space. The brothers began a nomadic life that lasted several years as the Cold War between the Republic and the Empire began, moving from planet to planet and taking on various aliases and false identities. Arkratt continued his studies, researching and conducting archaeological expeditions wherever possible.
Personality and traits[]
Contrary to most Sith, Arkratt was a diplomatic, introverted individual, who avoided conflict where possible and was often conscious of his status and how others perceived him. Preferring his own company and lacking the charisma of his brother, Arkratt was an outsider throughout his life, shunned by his fellow acolytes in the Sith Academy and demeaned by higher ranking Sith. Arkratt took a fonder liking to Imperials, who often showed him respect and honour that even low-ranking Sith were obliged to receive from Imperial citizens. Because of this, Arkratt was often far more sympathetic to non-Sith than to his own kind, something which continued when he left Imperial space altogether.
A Sith Pureblood, Arkratt had red skin and black hair with red eyes. Short and slim, Arkratt was unassuming and low-profile in appearance, and dressed modestly so as to not attract unwanted attention. He regularly wore a grey and black robe, but later adopted a variety of outfits during his exile so as to blend in the many environments he found himself in. Arkratt wielded a red lightsaber, though he rarely used this, instead choosing to use his impressive Force abilities during combat or in self-defence.
