My recommendation, my lord? Lord Atlus, my recommendation, as your Chairman, as your friend, and as the head of state of Ban Tair, is that we press the offensive against those traitorous Separatists until they're beat! And, I think Speaker Zorgin would agree with me!
—Grand Archbishop Sean U'Chlaire
The Archbishopric of Ban Tair, also known as the Theocracy of Ban Tair, was the government of Ban Tair and the surrounding Ban Tair System, as well as several colonies throughout the Ethereal Demesnes. The Archbishopric was never a part of the Ethereal Empire, unlike many of the Demesnes and particularly the voting members of the Diet, however it was founded only around a millennium after the Empire's disappearance and not long after the foundation of the Galactic Republic.
Originally, Ban Tair was one of the more remote, more religious colonies of Ethereal Humans founded during the reign of the Ethereal Family. However, after the Ethereal Empire and the Family disappeared, Ban Tair quickly rose to the occasion to aid those worlds around it which were in need after the sudden loss of central imperial support, and, later, the world also founded a force of military "crusaders", created so that the governing Grand Archdiocese could go on the offensive in the Ethereal Demesnes' numerous wars and skirmishes.
In time, in spite of not being a Core Demesne, Ban Tair was counted among the more noteworthy Demesnes, particularly as its delegates in the Diet regularly held the position of Chairman, considered second only to the Regent and above the Speaker. Thus, as the vast majority of Regents were leaders of the Kingdom of Luctanem's House Valdayn, Ban Tair's Grand Archbishops came to have a diplomatically close relationship with the Kings and Queens of Luctanem.
Ban Tair's view on the politics of the Demesnes as a whole region was, in effect, that the region ought to remain independent of outside influences, but keep outside allies. Therefore, it was no surprise that Ban Tair long supported the Demesnes' status as a Republic Allied Region, but opposed becoming too directly integrated with the Republic. Ban Tair's leaders felt that it was to the Demesnes' advantage to be represented in the Galactic Senate, but not to fully join the Republic. It was, therefore, equally unsurprising when Ban Tair supported the Republic during the Clone Wars, but was among those worlds which had to be "reconquered" during the Ethereal Sector Expansion Project, as it was utterly opposed to the Demesnes' status as an Imperial client state and saw the Galactic Empire as overbearing and overstepping their authority in the Demesnes.
