Anakin Skywalker was a Force-sensitive Human male who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight and later served the Galactic Empire as the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Born to the slave Shmi Skywalker in 42 BBY, Anakin was conceived by midi-chlorians, the symbiotic organisms that allowed individuals to touch the Force, and he and his mother were brought to the desert planet of Tatooine to be the slaves of Gardulla the Hutt. They soon ended up as the property of the Toydarian Watto, and Skywalker exhibited exceptional piloting skills and a reputation for being able to build and repair anything even at a young age. In 32 BBY, Skywalker encountered the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Padmé Amidala, and he helped them secure the parts they needed for their starship by winning the Boonta Eve Classic podracing event—only to learn that he had also won his freedom in doing so.

Reluctantly leaving his mother behind, Skywalker accompanied Jinn and his group to the Republic's capital of Coruscant and participated in the Battle of Naboo, helping to free Amidala's homeworld from the armies of the Trade Federation. While Jinn was killed during the battle, Jinn's student Obi-Wan Kenobi followed Jinn's wishes and took on Skywalker as his Padawan, and much of the Jedi Council believed that Skywalker was the Chosen One of Jedi prophecy: one who would bring balance to the Force by destroying the Sith Order. Skywalker and Kenobi had a number of adventures during the Padawan's decade of training to become a Jedi, but as the Separatist Crisis threatened to tear the Republic apart in 22 BBY, Skywalker was reunited with Amidala when he was assigned to protect her from assassins. The two grew close during the course of the assignment, though they were caught up in the Battle of Geonosis and the beginning of the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Losing an arm during the fighting, Skywalker received a cybernetic replacement, and he and Amidala were secretly married in the days after the battle despite the Jedi Code's restrictions on attachments.

During the Clone Wars, which raged for the next three years, Skywalker was granted the rank of Jedi Knight and became known to the public as the "Hero with No Fear." Taking on the Togruta Ahsoka Tano as his apprentice, Skywalker fought alongside Kenobi and his fellow Jedi in scores of battles, and his friendship with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine deepened despite the Jedi Order's wariness of Palpatine's rapid acquisition of further powers during the Clone Wars.

During the last weeks of the Clone War, Anakin began to have visions of his wife Padmé Amidala dying while giving birth to her child. At first Anakin was desperate to save her and was almost willing to go to any lengths to save her. Adding to his already high stress levels was the fact that both Chancellor Palpatine and the Jedi Council were trying to use him as a political pawn, a fact that Anakin quickly came to realize when he was secretly asked to spy on the Chancellor for the Council.

Anakin became aware that he was being used by both the Jedi Council and the Chancellor and tried to distance himself from them. Unknown to Skywalker at the time however was that he was playing right into the Sith Lord's hands who had a backup plan in the event that the Chosen One would not turn.

The night the Jedi Order was destroyed, Anakin sensed the death's of the Jedi Council members who had gone to face Palpatine. Going against Master Windu's orders, Skywalker made his way to the Chancellor's office but was attacked from behind by an at the time unknown assailant and left for dead. He would awaken almost a week later and learn that he was rescued by Clone Captain Rex who had not followed Order 66. It was at this time that Anakin would learn that the now dead Clone 'Fives' had left a warning for Rex several months earlier about the control chips that had been implanted in the heads of all Clones.

While Anakin recovered he learned from Rex that he had been cloned and that the Clone was calling itself Darth Vader. He also learned that the Clone was responsible for the destruction of the Jedi Order and that somehow he had been greatly wounded and was now in some kind of life support suit.

The worst news came however when Anakin and Rex saw a holo-news cast stating that Senator Padmé Amidala had died and Anakin instantly knew that the Sith had been responsible for it.

About a month after the Empire was formed, Rex was killed while helping Anakin escape Coruscant leaving the Chosen One completly alone and in a deep state of depression as he had now lost everyone and everything that he'd ever cared about.

Personality And Traits[]

As a young boy, Skywalker was thoughtful and intelligent. He was friendly and easily got along with others despite his status as a slave. He also had a special place in his heart for his mother, whom he constantly built inventions to sell or to use to lighten her workload. At the coming of the Jedi, he was both helpful and generous; doing all that he could to help them off-planet, risking his life at the podrace as well as giving them the sizable reward money which he and his mother would have had use for. Though lovable, he also was one to carry grudges and was vengeful, but he commonly held these two traits in check. He also hated being treated unjustly or being wrongly accused. He was fiercely loyal, doing anything to keep those he was close to from harm, at any cost. His only price for this dedication was loyalty in return.

His separation from his mother was the hardest thing he'd ever done, and it still hurt him for years. Because of his fear of losing even more friends in such a manner, he kept to himself, fiddling around with his only friends, the Temple droids. During this, however, he grew especially close to Kenobi, considering him a father and a role model. Due to his sudden escalation from slave to being known as the "Chosen One" and the rising star of the Jedi Order, pride and arrogance set in. He grew cocky, self-appreciating, and he grew to hate being reprimanded or lectured.

He was naturally honest and despised lying and deception, and especially hated politics, correctly considering most politicians to be greedy and self-conceited. Kenobi's continual self-consciousness when it came to Skywalker hurt the boy, who at times wasn't sure whether Kenobi liked him, something his heart craved. Therefore, he turned to a more complimenting, comforting source: Palpatine.

His yearning to be loved, as well as appreciated, came out in his devotion and secret marriage to Amidala, one of the only three people he ever thought appreciated or cared for him. As his fame grew, he became more and more arrogant, and he knew that he was one of the best Jedi of the Order, believing that he could easily best any Jedi blindfolded with his lightsaber tied behind his back. This coupled with his frustration at his perceived injustice at being kept at the rank of Jedi Knight made him more and more bitter and distrustful of the Jedi Council. His belief in them was shattered more and more as he noticed that the Jedi Council itself was starting to betray the very principles that they were supposed to believe in. The way his padawan Ahsoka Tano had been betrayed by the Council was the event that truly shook his faith in the Order and the Republic.

After the Fall[]

After the Jedi Order fell and learning that his wife and child had died, Anakin fell into a state of deep depression. This depression would last for several years. Anakin's inner darkness also began to surface more an more often, yet he'd never truly fall to the dark side. The pain and guilt over not being able to save his wife and child caused him to finally realise that he wasnt all powerful and he finally grew past the arrogance he once possessed.

Anakin also became a lot colder and harder with some people considering him to be like Vader, but with a conscience as he had no problem in killing hundreds if needed. Despite this darkness within him however, Anakin still retained an instinctive need to help people and would go out of his way to help someone if they needed it.

This darkness within Anakin was also caused by the fact that he was being hunted by not only the Empire, but surviving members of the Jedi Order who believed that he was the one that stormed the Jedi Temple the night of the fall. This essentially made Anakin the most hated man in the galaxy.

Relationships[]

Padmé Amdiala[]

Skywalker had met the disguised Queen Amidala in his home of Mos Espa, where she passed off as a commoner named Padme Naberrie. When he first met her, he initially asked her if she was an Angel. However, he also ended up distraught when discovering that she was actually the Queen, which he admitted to Obi-Wan while participating in Qui-Gon Jinn's funeral. After parting ways after the Battle of Theed, he continually thought of her, and his fascination grew for his bold and beautiful friend, who was four years his senior. They met again ten years later, and his fascination blossomed into love. After a hair-raising series of adventures together, she began to return his affection, and the two married as the Clone Wars begun. Although they saw each other rarely and had to work hard to keep their marriage a secret, Skywalker was deeply in love and vowed to protect Amidala from the fate he could not save his mother from. In the end, his fear for Amidala proved true but in the most tragic of ways possible as she died believing that he had turned not only to the Dark Side, but also on her. Despite this belief Anakin would eventually discover that even though Padmé died believing that he had turned to the Dark Side, she loved him right until the moment she died.

Qui-Gon Jinn[]

Qui-Gon Jinn was the first Jedi that Skywalker had met. He deduced that Jinn was a Jedi Knight from a brief glance of Jinn's lightsaber while the latter was talking with Watto. He had a great degree of respect for the Jedi Master, having a lot of concern for him when he barely escaped from Darth Maul during an ambush. He also was not willing to disobey Jinn, at least in terms of the letter of the law. This was most evident during the Naboo Space Battle, when he, in response to R2-D2 asking whether he should return to Naboo, refused as Jinn had earlier told him to "stay in the cockpit" (even though Jinn meant to keep hidden). Jinn's death had devastated him, and also left him briefly wondering what he should do with his life.

A few years after the fall of the Order, Qui-Gon would appear before Anakin as a Force Ghost and help him move passed his pain and guilt. Qui-Gon would be the one to tell Anakin that Padmé had given birth to twin children before she died.

Qui-Gon would help Anakin complete his training on the Living Force before the Force Ghost of the Mortis Father continued to further his training in order to prepare him for his true destiny.

Obi-Wan Kenobi[]

When Skywalker first met his future mentor, he was the second Jedi that he had encountered but Kenobi, like the rest of the Jedi Council, didn't believe that Skywalker should be trained. Despite this, he was willing to defy the Council's decision to respect his dying master's last wish to train Skywalker as a Jedi.

The first stage of their relationship was similar to that between a father and a son and Kenobi was, along with Amidala and Shmi, one of those Skywalker loved the most in the galaxy. Skywalker had great respect for his master and considered him an equal in wisdom only to Master Yoda. However, his arrogant and prideful attitude clashed with his master's more patient and peaceful ways. They would often disagree and engage in verbal jousts about the Jedi Order and the politics of Coruscant. However, their bond was strong enough that Skywalker was willing to disobey the Council's orders and go to Geonosis to rescue him when he was Count Dooku's prisoner.

After the Battle of Geonosis, their relationship changed again from a father-son one to one between two brothers. The antagonism that they would show, sometimes rather violently, turned into playful bickering. During the Clone Wars, Skywalker saved Kenobi's life at least ten times and the latter apparently did the same for him on some occasions. However, their relationship turned darker due to their actions in regards to Ahsoka which caused a deep rift between not only them, but between Anakin and the Council. Kenobi also secretly suspected Skywalker and Amidala's relationship.

Believing Skywalker had fallen to the dark side and became Darth Vader, Kenobi was heartbroken and even begged Master Yoda to send him to kill Darth Sidious in his stead as he couldn't kill his brother. When it appeared that Padmé had led Kenobi to him, he tried to kill them both. During their duel, Kenobi kept trying to find a trace of his old apprentice in the monster but it was in vain and he finally accepted that Skywalker was gone. However, while the latter expressed eternal hatred towards his old master, Kenobi wasn't able to finish Vader off and left him to be consumed by the flames of Mustafar.

It would be several years after the fall that Obi-Wan would learn the truth behind what had happened and he found it difficult to believe. Their relationship would be even further damaged when Anakin learned that Obi-Wan had used Padmé in order to find Vader. This resulted in Anakin blaming Kenobi for Padmé's death.

To make matters worse, Anakin would later learn that Padmé had given birth to twin children and that Kenobi had deliberately kept that information from him. He would also learn that Yoda and Kenobi now believed that he was in fact not the Chosen One and that one of his children were. This caused Anakin to realize that Yoda and Obi-Wan viewed his children as nothing more than tools to fulfill a prophecy.

As a result of all these events, Anakin's and Obi-Wan's relationship would be severaly damaged and it would take years for Anakin to even think of Kenobi as more than just an unwanted ally.

Ahsoka Tano[]

Skywalker initially had a shaky relationship with his Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Although he expressed annoyance when Tano referred to him as "Skyguy" after he told Rex of his intentions to not train her, and in retaliation calling her "Snips" and "youngling", he did open himself up after the Christophisis incident,[70] going as far to spare Dooku and torture Poggle with the sole intention of saving her by doing so. Skywalker would also not give up on saving Tano after she got caught in an explosion of a droid foundry that she destroyed with a tank, having no other method. Greatly relieved that Tano was still alive, he told her that he hadn't doubted her, after she told him that she knew he would save her. Skywalker’s desire to keep his Padawan safe went beyond the battlefield into his teachings to her. Though she was skilled in the classic Shien, Skywalker began teaching her Ataru and Djem So, two aggressive forms he was greatly skilled in, being mastered in the latter.

Wanting Tano to be prepared for any opponent, he also trained her to protect herself against enemies wielding a double-bladed lightsaber, such as Asajj Ventress, whom she’d faced before. There is also much evidence to support that Skywalker’s attachment of Tano was as great as his attachment to his mother and his wife. Before his mission to Lanteeb, during battle against General Grievous’ fleet, immersing himself in the Force, “He was Shmi and Padmé and Ahsoka.” In the aftermath of that battle, when Kenobi told him it was Tano who had saved the day, Skywalker “felt a rush of pride” and boasted that she was his apprentice. That pride was evident in his trust in her to command in his stead, such as during the Battle of Ryloth. Though Skywalker was usually reckless and did not think about the consequences of his actions, Tano’s presence seemed to soften these tendencies. The Battle of Ryloth seemed to be a milestone for Master and Padawan, for he took her words to heart when she told him that his actions often put others at risk, which resulted in him evacuating the cruiser, leaving only him with an escape pod so the cruiser would crash into the battleship.

Nearing the end of the war, Skywalker also held a great degree of trust in her, being one of the few people to strongly believe that Tano had actually been framed. However, he also realized that he could not help her directly as it would have made her seem even more guilty than she was already suspected to be by everyone else. He also managed to track down the actual guilty party, Barriss Offee, and expose her after defeating her in a lightsaber duel, although his efforts were for naught as Tano resigned from the Jedi Order.

Several years later Ahsoka would encounter Anakin wandering the galaxy and would be shocked to learn that he had not in fact fallen to the Dark Side and that Vader was a clone. She would stay with Anakin for a while and help him deal with his deep depression. However despite still caring about Anakin, she no longer trusted him as she could sense a great deal of darkness within him. That and the fact that he had taken Barriss Offee into his care caused a bit of tension between them. In the end she would decide to walk away from her former master for the second time.

Anakin and Ahsoka would not see each other again until after the Death of the Emperor by which time she was married to Lux Bonteri.

Barriss Offee[]

Anakin had known Barriss for several years before the fall of the Jedi Order and the Republic. In fact the pair had been friends during their teenage years and were even went on several missions together. Most notibly the Mission to Ansion just before the start of the Clone War. However when Anakin was promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight, their friendship dwindled as Barriss kept her distance from him as she was still only a padawan. ironically enough though Barriss would strike up a friendship with Anakin's padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

Anakin and Barriss's relationship would take a tragic turn when she fell to the dark side and framed Ahsoka for the bombing of the Jedi Temple. After the pair dueled Anakin overpowered her and took her to Ahsoka's trial and forced her to confess her crime. As a result Barriss would be imprisoned for her actions.

Anakin would not see Barriss again for over three and a half years and by this time she was working for the Empire as an Inquisitor hunting down Jedi across the Galaxy. However when Anakin encountered her, he sensed the truth behind the darkness that had consumed her and realized that she was not evil but simply lost in a sea of self hatred over what she had become.

Anakin thankfully was able to get through to Barriss and make her realize that there was still hope for her and was able to convince her to abandon the Empire. After these events Anakin would help her in a similar way to which Qui-Gon had helped him come to terms with his own inner darkness and the pair would spend the next several years together, going so far as to forming a romantic relationship that would last until she was killed a year before the First Death Star Was destroyed.

Barriss's death would deeply effect Anakin but by this time he was much older and wiser which helped him deal with her loss without becoming consumed by grief as he had been when Padmé had died.
