I'm not even sure the Ardor is permissible anymore. But I guess I should worry about that, after it has saved our skin!
—Jacen Solo, referring to the Altyr Ardor crystal.
The Altyr Ardor was a dual-fold lightsaber crystal found in the Altyr system, that allowed its owner to change the color of their lightsaber blade, using a small clasp on the Hilt.
Since it was much more elementary than acquiring or constructing a synthetic lightsaber crystal, the Jedi often used the Altyr Ardor for illicit operations involving Sith or Dark Jedi.
As well as changing from blue to green or violet, or from green to blue or violet, the Jedi were able to change their blade from Jedi colors, to orange or crimson. This made undercover assignments very smooth for the Jedi, as they were able to blend with hostiles and even fight alongside them in order to gain their trust, without arousing suspicion and without changing their cherished hilt.
Lightsaber construction[]
The Altyr Ardor was mounted inside a lightsaber in the same way as any other crystal. After mounting the crystal, its user would make a slight calibration to the energy modulation circuits inside the hilt, in order to activate the color adjust clasp. This clasp was usually constructed just below the blade power adjust.
After the user had ignited their blade, they would turn the clasp anti-clockwise until they reached their desired color. If the user stopped the clasp center-most to two different colors, the blade would automatically switch to the following color.
The default color on power-up was green.
Usage[]
Known users of the Altyr Ardor included Jedi Masters Derhanna and Lume Kuchhi. Years later, Jacen Solo would also come into possession of one of the few Altyr Ardor crystals left in the Galaxy.
