The Alliance Party was a Galactic Republic political party that was formed in the aftermath of the Mezzilenic War to counter the rise of the Democratic Republican Party.
History[]
Following the end of the Mezzilenic War, preparations were made for the elections of a new Senate and a new Chancellor. Polls suggested that the Democratic Republican Party would take both the Senate and the Chancery, and the Jedi Order distrusted the party's leader Arf Fey'lya so they approached his rival Merix Valorum to form a credible opposition to him. Valorum agreed and formed the Alliance Party.
In the subsequent election to the Senate, the Alliance Party came second but had enough support to ally with the Core and Rim parties to take control of the Senate. This support allowed Valorum to be elected Chancellor and the party formed the next government which began a restructuring of the Republic institutions as well as scaling down the Republic military. The party's support grew and Valorum was re-elected with an increased level of support.
