Fancy stuff like that Ataru flourish gets you killed, clone boy. This DL-44 and Shii-Cho are beautiful, precisely because they are simplistic.
—Alen Justil, sparring with X2 within the Jedi Praxeum.
Alen Justil was a Corellian career criminal, and later, a Jedi in the service of the New Jedi Order whose deeds as a privateer would make him legend. Though a rouge by nature, he would find the courage necessary to make his legacy reverberate throughout the galaxy as a Jedi.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Alen was born to Khamber Justil and his wife, Aelrana, in the crevices and crannies of Corellia's Undercity. Having fled into the underworld of his homeworld to train his son, Khamber hoped that he would follow in his father's footsteps and become a Jedi.
However, when Alen accompanied his father on a mission in 7 BBY to seek out a long-forgotten Corellian Jedi Enclave, his father would be killed by his uncle Sevran Justil- and Alen's life would soon be at Sevran's mercy. Though he would overcome his uncle by words, Alen was shaken by the experience.
He split his newly built saber into several parts, placed them throughout the Enclave, and left the place behind- with his uncle within.
Running from Destiny[]
Alen returned to the place he was born- the Undercity- and earned a place smuggling arms to anti-Imperial intellectuals on the YT-1000 Plutonia. Though he chafed under the back-breaking labor assigned to him, he would save up his credits, intent on buying the ship and becoming a free trader himself.
He continued on this path until 5 BBY, when a routine delivery to Devaronian rebels in Montellian Serat turned hot- with Lord Vader leading the charge. Alen would come face to face with the Dark Lord, and was beaten within an inch of his life attempting to charge him with a vibroblade. Vader, intending to teach the Pantoran captain of the Plutonia a lesson, chopped off the boy's left arm with his lightsaber, and left the battlefield.
The otherwise hard Pantoran, shaken, nursed the boy back to health and even got him a new (crude) cybernetic arm from a back-alley doctor on Corellia. Dropping Alen back off on Corellia, he left Alen with his earning and a DL-44.
Alen, refusing to return to the Enclave, tried to scrape a living off the streets of Corellia for the next few years- with diminishing returns. Resigned to the facts of the situation, he returned to the Enclave in 0 BBY.
Training[]
Alen entered the Enclave to find it refurbished, and deduced that Sevran had somehow renovated the structure. Alen attempted to find the parts of his lightsaber, only to discover Sevran holding them- and the masked man promptly issued his nephew a challenge.
If Alen could defeat him in hand-to-hand combat, he would be free to do as he wished with the lightsaber. But if Sevran defeated him, he would accept his uncle's help and the ways of the Jedi.
The two promptly clashed, with Alen utilizing years of hard-earned experience against his uncle. In the end, however, the former Inquisitor's training bested the street rat. Alen accepted his uncle as his second master, with Sevran dead set on completing his brother's work.
Jedi[]
Alen would spend the rest of the Civil War learning from his aging uncle, and would again leave the confines of the Enclave in 12 ABY to join Luke Skywalker at the Jedi Praxeum . It was here that he would spend the majority of his life, leading both New Republic forces and his students into battle against various threats.
During the wars against the Yuuzhan Vong and Killik, Alen began to develop a unique paradigm of tactics. He would typically choose to deploy multiple smaller forces in flanking positions, with a vanguard of K-Wings and Y-Wings leading the way with an all-out bombing run on the foe. As the foe dealt with these distractions, a larger force would commit to a frontal assault, with him leading from the front.
Justil and several native Corellian Jedi students under his tutelage would, against the will of Masters Skywalker and Horn, side with Corellia from the start during the Second Galactic Civil War. Under the command of the Confederacy, Justil would make several "vengeance raids" on Alliance military assets -for Centerpoint, Kashyyyk, and later, Ossus- on the Alliance using squads of Mandalorians and Corellian commandos. The flanking tactics used on these raids, combined with his reputation for such maneuvers from the Vong and Swarm wars, would earn him the nickname of "Scrapper" from the men.
After the war, Justil and his students would scavenge the ruins of the Praxeum on Yavin IV, finding a deactivated and ancient Lxq-221 droid. Reactivating it, Justil would find himself the droid's newest target- being hunted for several weeks by the droid. Forcing it out of hiding by destroying all of it's ancillary recon droids, the Jedi managed to bring it to heel and force it to serve him- though not being uninjured in the encounter, as the aging Jedi would lose his cybernetic left arm to the beast.
In 45 ABY, Justil led a team of knights, including his current apprentice Melzidec, on a mission to recover the Dagger of Mortis- as precaution should Abeloth return. Following a twisted trail of hearsay and half-truths to Tython, Justil discovered the dagger (or an identical copy) resting within the "corpse" of a ancient Jedi Tho Yor temple. However, Melzidec uncovered a chamber within the Tho Yor containing weapons with similar properties, raising more questions as to the true purpose of the pyramidal ship.
Personality and traits[]
Alen was a child of the streets of Corellia, being an unusually self-centered and resourceful child for much of his life. This made him value pragmatism and practicality in everything he did, from lightsaber dueling to business dealings.
Alen fought with a 'saber in his right and a DL-44 blaster pistol in his crude cybernetic left hand. He had a rudimentary understanding of most lightsaber forms, but saved his special affection for the first he learned- Shii-Cho. In battle, this made him a whirlwind of strikes and shots from unexpected angles- paradoxically, with a minimum of movement on his part. He especially preferred to catch a foe in a blade lock and draw his DL-44 for a single well-aimed shot, usually ending the fight.
Alen's left arm, after an encounter with Vader, was a crude cybernetic replacement. This replacement had several problems with controlling it's strength, and with fine motor functions- thus why he abandoned the saberstaff for fear of cutting himself with it. This made his aiming with that limb plodding and methodical without the aid of the Force. However, it's sheer unrestrained strength would make it invaluable for combatives, especially when he used a chokehold- usually either leading to a foe breaking down into submission or killing them.
Though not particularly fond of the ways of the Force - preferring to solve his problems with a blaster and saber instead, - he showed some skill with telekinetics and acrobatics, being able to vault large distances with ease and run up sheer cliff faces after his training was complete.
