Aegis Security and Defense Solutions, also known simply as Aegis, was a private security company that provided private defense and law enforcement services to hundreds of planetary governments across the galaxy.
History[]
Aegis was founded at the end of the Stark Hyperspace War by members of the Outland Regions Security Force. Initially, Aegis saw little success and its contractors mostly undertook low-stake security contracts with banks and commercial centers. Over the years, Aegis' advertisement campaigns proved successful, as they quickly found themselves fulfilling security tasks across hundreds of star systems; in some cases, Aegis even completely replaced some planets' defense forces and law enforcement organizations as they were considered a cheaper alternative. As such, Aegis troopers and security officers participated in many combat operations against pirates and insurgents, earning the company infamy among the galaxy's military leaders and enthusiasts.
During the Clone Wars, most of the company's client worlds happened to fall within Republic space, and as such many of its contractors saw combat against the Separatists; despite this, the company publicly announced that it did not intend to take sides in the war.
Following the end of the Clone Wars, Aegis was nationalized by the Galactic Empire and most of its contractors were absorbed into the Imperial Military.
Description[]
Aegis specialized in both ground and space security, and as such consisted of both infantry units and starfighter squadrons, and later a fleet of warships.
Infantry[]
Aegis' ground-based personnel consisted of both security officers and paramilitary troopers. Security officers, due to their low-threat operations, were lightly armed with blaster pistols such as the ELG-3A blaster pistol. Their paramilitary troopers, often referred to as "Aegis troopers", were trained for more intense combat situations and as such were usually armed with A280 blaster rifles, a common sight among local defense forces. Aegis security officers wore a basic uniform that consisted of a white top and black slacks; Aegis troopers wore blue uniforms very similar to the ground troopers of the Republic's Judicial Forces.
Space forces[]
Aegis boasted a fleet that was typical of local defense forces: the company comprised several squadrons of Z-95 Headhunter starfighters and CloakShape fighters, who were often deployed in anti-piracy operations by Aegis clients. Later by the time of the Separatist Crisis, Aegis maintained a fleet of 31 Dreadnought-class heavy cruisers, 8 CR90 corvettes, and 6 IPV-1 patrol craft scattered across their client systems. During the Clone Wars, Aegis was secretly gifted an Arquitens-class light cruiser by the Republic Navy. Following the rise of the Empire, all of Aegis' starships were absorbed into the Imperial Navy.
