Rise of the Empire eraRebellion era

Adrian Varino I was an Admiral of the Republic Navy born on Naboo . Prior to being an admiral, he also served in the Royal Naboo Security Force prior to the Clone Wars as well as running several companies that he either inherited or would end up purchasing. He also briefly served in the Imperial Navy, however, his service led to him being against the New Order though his son was an admiral for the New Order.

He would lead the Fourth Fleet from 22 BBY to 17 BBY. He would however secretly lend aid to the Rebellion once it was created.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

The Fourth Born child of Cornelius Varino, he did not stand out in the family at the time, his elder brother being set for the largest portion of the inheritance. So he lived as the second son, getting a portion of the inheritance when the time would come. As such at the age of six, he entered schooling in one of Theed's more exclusive schools. He showed potential however he did not excel, he was not a top student, quite bad at math and science. This did not change things, he was quick to pick up friends, and in the same sense, he was quite good at picking fights too, often getting into childish brawls with people. By age twelve he had mellowed out, less picking of fights, he had begun to take his history studies quite seriously, quite interested in the ancient battles of the Great Sith War and other minor Naboo wars.

Teenage Years[]

At the age of fourteen, his elder brother, who had the inheritance, Marcus Varino would die unexpectedly while traveling from Naboo to Corellia, having been killed by pirates. As such the young Adrian would suddenly become Heir to his family's company, the Varino Real Estate Company, and a much greater portion of the money. He would, however, continue his studies to were as his father, though quite distraught over the death of his firstborn son, was quite healthy and would live to see his grandson from Adrian.

Continue on his studies however he would become interested in the soldiery, which his father supported considering the peaceful nature of the Naboo. So he would finish his studies at eighteen and joined the Royal Naboo Security Force and became a recruit.

The RNSF[]

While in the RNSF, he would serve dutifully, usually protecting the king Ars Veruna while under his lieutenant. After a while he would be reassigned to Harte Secur and from there he would go up the ranks until reaching the rank of Captain. There he would largely oversee command of the armored forces, which comprised of Heavy Champions and Gian Speeders though of no large quantity he liked working with the crews of these vehicles. While in Harte Secur he would meet who would become his wife, Theodora Hewtash, who he would marry at age twenty-two. His first son would be born two years later in 46 BBY. He would continue serving, requesting and being granted a transfer to Theed, where he worked with the pilots of N-1L Light Starfighters though also keeping contact with his friends in Harte Secur, he would attempt to be in his sons life though would not be very successful with this leading to a schism between them to form.

Eventually, he would show the young Adrian Jr the N-1L starfighters he worked with, which would stoke his sense of adventure even more. In 36 BBY, Cornelius, Adrian's Father, would die, leading to Adrian becoming the owner of the companies, and him stepping back from the RNSF becoming a reserve officer. As such he would mainly run the company until 32 BBY.

The Invasion of Naboo[]

The Invasion of Naboo would see Adrian Varino returning to Harte Secur during the preceding blockade, there he would lead the armored forces in the Battle of Harte Secur where he would defend until he was forced to flee and eventually helped with resistance activities against the Trade Federation in the area. He would continue fighting, eventually making his way back to Theed as the Second Battle of Theed ended. He would partake in victory celebration after scolding his son for helping the Theed underground, as he believed it was too dangerous for him to be doing it.

Business as Usual[]

After this he would return to his business eventually giving his son a role in it as the head of the Coruscant office of the Real Estate Company. While his son would help him with a few major acquisitions notably the Kaadu Restaurant and Services Holding Company, which gave him control of various restaurant chains and Naboo based fisheries, as well a few Hotels on the planet. With this him and his son had brought the Varino Family and it's wealth to a much higher point then it had been in years, and with quite the wealth he would relax. As the years continued the Real Estate company would continue it's growth, going from only having offices on Naboo, Coruscant, and Corellia, to eventually having offices on Alderaan and other wealthy worlds that had previously refused to allow them onto the planet.

Separatist Crisis[]

As he turned forty-four the Separatist Crisis began leading to a slump in his business and widespread unrest. Adrian would at this point was very much pro-republican. This crisis would largely lead to the closing of offices for his company on separatist worlds due to his politics. Within two years the crisis got even worse, and war would break out.

The Clone Wars[]

22 BBY[]

Once the Battle of Geonosis would end and news spread across the galaxy, Varino would feel a sense of duty, having seen what the droid army could do on his homeworld years ago, as such he would enlist into the Republic Navy, and due to his experience and what some would call his family status he would be pushed through to a training course for the Admiralty and once that was finished, he was now the Admiral of the Republic Fourth Fleet. Now once out of this he would be promised one of the first in a new line of ships to combat the CIS, until then he was stuck leading a fleet comprised of Dreadnaught Heavy Cruisers and Acclamator Assault Ships, while not entirely outclassed, Varino preferred to be quite careful with what he did using it. However, within the month, he would receive the Pearl Dragon, fresh from KDY the Venator-class Star Destroyer would be the Admiral's new home for the duration. The Admiral's first engagement would be largely underwhelming, patrolling the Southern Core, where he would largely fight small forces attempting to stop the Bacta Run from being used to it's full potential. There he would only see minor engagements, eventually, he would get a rather odd Jedi General that he would work with, the Cerean Biltec-Wih-Mei. This would also come along with the clones under Biltec-Wih-Mei, the 409th Mechanized Division.

21 BBY[]

Things would, however, pick up the pace quite quickly as the second year of the Clone Wars began, still a rather Reserve fleet not seeing major engagements, Varino kept the fleet largely together, due to the outdated nature of it and that he could overwhelm many of his enemies. However, suddenly task forces began disappearing, mainly Varino's smaller scouting forces, not entirely concerned thinking that perhaps they were upping their efforts in the sector Varino started sending larger patrols, some including himself and the Pearl Dragon. While not expecting much over the planet of Dentaal he would find something, a ship, unlike anything he had ever seen. As such he called together the fleet to combat this large ship, but little did he know this was the flagship of General Grievous this ship would strike while they were at the edge of the system. The Malevolence had taken it's first victims. Ninety-Nine percent of the fleet would destroyed and similar numbers were reached with casulties , including the Jedi Biltec-Wih-Mei, Varino barely escaped himself as the Pearl Dragon was destroyed and would land in the middle of nowhere on Dentaal. This marked the first major engagement that the Admiral was in the Battle of Dentaal which was an abject failure as he was the only confirmed survivor.

The Admiral would be stranded and listed as KIA until he managed to reach civilization around the time of the Destruction of the Malevolence, which led to some issues relating to the estate he owned but they were fixed rather quickly as the Admiral went on leave immediately after his return. While this happened the Fourth Fleet underwent reconstruction and was reformed, comprising of largely Venators and Acclamators. Varino would then serve with his second capital ship Resurrection. And since the 409th Mechanized Division was ninety-nine percent decimated, he would receive a new Clone Legion and a new Jedi. Toward the middle of this year, Varino's Son, who had been in command of the Carrack-class Light Cruiser Brood, he would be transferred to reinforce the recovering Fourth Fleet, and as such Father and Son were now apart of the same fleet. This would lead to the second major engagement that the Fourth Fleet would be apart of, the Battle of Delphon, which would be a major victory for the Fourth Fleet, decimating the separatist forces, and the Fourth Fleet would now patrol the entirety of the Bacta Run, leading to mainly an ancillary role in the Southern Core, Colonies and Inner Rim, this is where he would be involved many battles that would be apart of the Operation Durge's Lance, as Thyferra became a Confederate world, Varino's fleet would be apart of the Bacta Campaign which would last into Late 20 BBY, and would see Thyferra's liberation by the end of it. However, the Fourth Fleet would suffer many setbacks over the course of this with a major battle over Fondor, though only the start of a campaign in the Tapani Sector, as even if the Fondorians did not do much in the CIS' favor they were still a planet that required some liberation. This would mark the end of the second year of the war.

20 BBY[]

To shake things up and give the CIS a few surprises, the Fourth Fleet was removed from the Bacta Campaign, and sent after a successful Battle of Onderon to the Onderon system, he would be transferred alongside his fleet to oversee the reintegration and during this process, he would have one, Director Iulian Hargraves would be attached to his fleet. He would during a minor skirmish over Porus Vida lose his second Flagship, however, due to his rather successful term as the commander of the Bacta Campaign, he would be given the Darkened Dawn a very early Imperator-Class Star Destroyer one of the first batch used for live-fire trials. With his new flagship, he would begin winning even more battles, as the ship largely outclassed the Separatist navies best ships, and as Kuat Drive Yards asked he would give the occasion performance report praising the ship, only criticizing the comparably small hangar space when compared to the Venator.

Meanwhile, Director Hargraves and Admiral Varino would slowly have more and more disagreements, Varino personally would not take them too badly, mainly believing the Republic Intelligence Officer to believe in the more devastating tactics that his fellow Admirals had started taking, mainly sacrifices which Varino was against, however, Hargraves had his own motives.

19 BBY[]

The Final Year of the war would ramp up in intensity. The first event as the year began Hargraves, who had been secretly taking bribes from the CIS, would Mutiny along with his Spire Station. This would lead to Varino taking his Flagship and a small fleet including Captain Varino Jr and began the Hunt for Hargraves. Eventually leading to the Battle of Kubindi where Hargraves would be defeated and presumed dead. However this would be proven wrong eventually, but in the direct aftermath, the traitor was counted as KIA.

Finally, Varino would be assigned as a reserve force during the Siege of Saleucami, not doing anything of note excepting minor roles supporting. He would be cycled back to Onderon as Order 66 was proclaimed. He would see the news of the attempt on the Chancellor's life but he would not believe it, he had personally met many Jedi and did not believe they were capable of that. However he did not speak out, he had a job to do and he had to finish what he started. Now an Imperial Admiral with the New Order's Proclamation his fleet would be renamed to the Fourth Imperial Fleet and the Fourth Fleet would get it's station changed for a final time to the Chommell Sector, he would attend Padme Amidalas funeral in the capacity of a Theed Noble.

Imperialization[]

Imperialization started with the fleet's Venators a newer paint job, the red was replaced with black and the GAR emblems were removed. However the real change came with doctrine changes, while he was ordered to finish off what remained of the CIS, the doctrine that started to begin in the Outer Rim Sieges became doctrine across the Navy, recover these planets at any cost. As such civilian casualties continued to climb and Varino was forced to comply. Varino's son, who at this point became Captain of the Darkened Dawn, and second in command. Though they had many disagreements and the fracture between them started to grow with the new order, Varino was still attempting to be a loving father.

Retirement[]

After only two years under the Empire, Varino would retire to go back to running his business. Here he would continue normally for years. Continuing to grow his company. He would do this successfully as he did have favor with the imperial government due to his son's position as admiral and his former position of admiral. He would also take to hosting parties of former republic naval staff and on occasion, such people as Admiral Norven Loyaler, or Olyver Baines would come to these parties. Eventually, his grandson Adrian Varino III would be born, and he would often look after him.

Rebel without a Cause[]

In 8 BBY, he would begin working to gather intelligence and running a local rebel cell, he was quite good at hiding this as well, due to the Estate having been built on catacombs that were once used for burial. There he began putting together monitoring equipment, and slowly the parties became more of a way to keep tabs on certain imperial admirals because he knew that eventually, information like this would be important. As such he gathered quite a collection, as well he would construct a greeting droid, made from an old OOM-Series Droid, however, he would enjoy his company naming him OOM-40. His rebel cell would largely deal with intelligence gathering, becoming embedded in many of Naboo's garrisons and due to being the father of the Chommell Sectors fleet Admiral, he would keep close tracks on who was where and what ships the fleet had, as his son on occasion would ask advice from him.

The Alliance[]

After compiling years worth of data on the Imperial Garrisons and the fleet the Rebel Alliance would begin to form and Varino would eventually learn of this and attempt to make contact. He would succeed a meeting between him using his business spreading to Alderaan as he had received some information, likely by Bail Organa himself who had been recruiting many rebel organizations with the help of his daughter as his contact, as such the Naboo cell he had made became apart of the larger Alliance Intelligence. As such his years of monitoring the Chommell forces were put to use.

The Galactic Civil War[]

As the Rebellion became more public and war spread across the galaxy, the Empire would start cracking down on suspected rebels, so his spying was forced to slow down as if he was discovered the Empire would crack down hard on his entire family, and even if he didn't agree with his son's career choice he did not want him to be thrown out of his job. So his activities slowed down but important information was still given to the rebellion, troop movements that he would find out about. Eventually, however, his rebel cell would have to start fighting, so using old RNSF supply caches his rebels would raid on occasion planets in the Naboo System or even sending some pilots and troops to Yavin 4. However Varino would continue to stay as the main intelligence gathering operation in the Chommell Sector, so he would stay. Once Alderaan was destroyed, he realized that he could not keep the secret forever, so he made more preparations, expanding the underground catacombs to act as an escape hatch, and carrying his holdout blaster and taking to carrying his S-5 heavy blaster pistol with him, just in case. Slowly his rebel cell would get bigger and bigger and the Chommell sector would be emblazed in the war, with Varino choosing the targets based on what he knew from his spying, he would be quite successful raiding convoys carrying weapons, which would then be shipped to where the Alliance needed them most.

The Naboo Uprising[]

As the News spread of the Victory over Endor spread Naboo rose up, and Varino was in charge of large portions of the fighting near Theed, having decided now was his chance he led the charge toward the Theed Palace. So he led his Cell and Gungans toward the palace. He would lead it, however, the fighting was hard and the seventy-two-year-old man was nowhere near as physically fit as his troops. As such he would be mortally wounded by a Stormtrooper. He would see Naboo Liberated but his son would arrive over Naboo to proclaim his Varino Imperium and the battle would continue briefly until a Ceasefire was called. Father and Son would meet one last time, and Varino I would die on a Liberated Naboo.

Legacy[]

Varino I would be buried in the Varino Family Mausoleum on Naboo, and the Funeral was attended by Imperials and Rebels on Naboo and the ceasefire would be respected by the Fourth Fleet. Varino II would be changed by his father's death, attempting to keep his son close after this, however, by this point, Adrian Varino II and his son Adrian Varino III were quite distant. Varino I would also be honored as a Great Admiral and Intelligence Officer by the New Republic, and to the Imperium their capital would hold a Statue of Varino I outside of the palace. His name would also continue on, both due to his Son's Ego naming his son after himself and his Grandsons Respect, this trend would continue on for quite some time due to the near hero-worship that Varino III instilled in his son, this would continue up until the Imperiums end.

His Final Legacy would be in a few of the Officers who served under him briefly, such as Benno Grainer, he had influenced their ways of war and instilled an important lesson in hiding in plain sight. Finally his second in command Mumar Mandir would eventually name his first child Adrian Mandir to honor his memory.

Personality and Traits[]

Adrian Varino, was slightly above average in terms of height and interested in military history and to an extent strategy from a young age. He would lose his right arm during a battle and it would be replaced with cybernetics, he would always wear a Crosh-Hide glove to cover his cybernetic hand, and would often wear more formal suits allowing him to not have to show his entire arm. He would live with a mix of lavishness and his businesses in mind, he was also well versed in the strategy of many ancient admirals having studied them extensively, as well as having learned ground battle tactics as part of the Royal Naboo Security Force. However, as an admiral he rarely had to use it and his tactics relating to armored vehicles did not quite work in the rebellion. He often dressed quite well for himself and would become somewhat of a collector of Art and ancient artifacts pertaining to warfare, including his personal droid OOM-40, which was a relic of the Naboo Blockade. He was not completely business-minded, able to run it, it would see great expansion when his son Adrian Varino II would become a major advisor. On some occasions he also showed himself to enjoy working with machinery, though he would never really keep to this hobby, however, preferring instead to continue the expansion of his company, though at a reduced rate due to his son now being an Admiral.

He was quite distant to his children owing to his service to RNSF, though he would be quite close with his grandchildren such as Adrian Varino III. He would be very much pro republic though he would keep this a secret to not endanger his son's career, or have his family ousted in Naboo politics by Moff Panaka. His dislike of the empire mainly stemmed from its anti-alien policy, having come to respect many of the species he had met during his times in the Navy as well as having trade open with many others. Once he began working as Rebel Intelligence he would become the mentor to many of the men under him, notably Mumar Mandir and Benjamin Grainer, teaching them how to blend in for intelligence operations, as well as acting as an impromptu Naval Academy for them teaching them what he could from his days as an Admiral and from his vast library on the Great Sith War and other ancient wars that could be learned from. However, for most of his later life, he was largely unable to do much in terms of direct conflict, due to his fear of his Son being imprisoned for his crimes, even if he was quite distant to him, though this did allow him to stay in contact with many of the Old Republics Naval Staff who had either retired or had become the New Orders Admiralty, allowing him to talk with them over
