We're totally crap--and damn proud of it!
—Motto of the program
Absolute Rubbish was a popular HoloNet game show during the late years of the Galactic Republic. It invited viewers to submit amateur holofilms, and occasionally written work, to be shown on the program, on the condition that they had to be as inane and badly made as possible. At the end of each program, viewers would vote in which piece of work shown on that day's program was the worst and the winner would win a cash prize. Famous holofilms shown on the program included The Adventures of Darth Toyler, about a battle droid action figure with Force powers, and Sith Wars Kid, which was simply two hours of a youth waving a metal pole around.
Although it proved popular with the general public, Absolute Rubbish was repeatedly slammed by critics and connoisseurs, who claimed it went against traditional entertainment values. Eventually, the program was shut down by the Galactic Empire, but still continued as an illegal underground venue.
Behind the scenes[]
The author came about the idea for this article after watching several reality shows which he felt were of very low quality, and then wondered what a show that was deliberately low-quality and inane would be like.
