Some of the Council call me reckless, foolish or even rule breaking. I am lucky to have even made it to Jedi Knight. But I do not care what they think of me. I am me just as you are you. I guess you could call me a Gray Jedi.
—Aaron Achaz to his first Padawan Kaikos Kane
Aaron Achaz was a Jedi Master born in 140 ABY and died in 190 ABY. Aaron Achaz was the son of a average Coruscanti couple and twin brother of Aedan Achaz who later became a Sith. Aaron and his brother were taken into the Jedi Order at the age of 4 years old. As they trained Aaron became more reckless but also wise, and Aedan developed an interest into the Dark Side. Eventually Aaron was taken as a Padawan while his brother was sent to the Jedi Service Corps due to his connection to the dark side. While he was sad for his brother Aaron was forced to focus on his apprenticeship.
In 157 ABY Aaron and his master were sent to uncover mysteries behing pirates gaining force sensitivity. They discovered Aedan was behind the plot using force crystals to amplify their connection to the force. In the following battle Aedan killed Aaron's master and captured his brother. After trying to convince Aaron to join him Aedan proceeded to travel to Korriban to gain more followers for his "army". While Aedan was busy, Aaron sneaked out and confronted his brother. Aaron defeated Aedan and attempted to take him captive but Aedan blew up his ship forcing Aaron to escape. Presuming Aedan dead, Aaron continued his studies. In 170 ABY Aaron was promoted to Jedi Knight. He then took a Twi'lek apprentice named Kaikos. Aaron trained him well and they bonded immensely even creating a force bond. By 182 ABY Aaron let Kaikos take the Trials. His apprentice succeeded and became a Jedi Knight. 2 years later, Achaz was promoted to Jedi Master regretfully by the Council who saw him as reckless, foolish and rule breaking. The following year, Achaz was visiting Corellia when he encountered a force sensitive human named Anar Velron. Sensing immense sensitivity and similar traits to himself, Achaz took him to the Jedi and trained him. They worked well together but the Council disapproved of their rule breaking nature. Achaz told his apprentice to ignore them however. In 190 ABY, Achaz received a message from a hooded figure telling them to go to Dagobah. Achaz agreed and took Velron with him. When they arrived, Velron was shot down but Achaz rescued him. After testing Velron in the Cave of Evil the hooded man came and revealed himself to be Aedan. Even though he was shocked, Aaron battled his brother and two Sith with Velron. However in the end he was killed when his brother decapitated him, ending the wise master's life.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Aaron Achaz was born to an average Coruscanti couple on Coruscant in 140 ABY. He also had a twin brother named Aedan. From an early age, Aaron and his brother showed signs of immense force sensitivity however, their parents hid them from the Jedi not wanting their only children to leave them. However it did not work as when Aaron and Aedan were four, a Jedi found them and after a long debate, Aaron and Aedan's parents agreed to let them become Jedi.
Life As A Youngling 144 ABY-153 ABY[]
When Aaron first became a Youngling, he and his brother, like other children in the Temple, were screaming for their "mommy" and "daddy".
Aaron quickly excelled all the basic training exercises while Aedan just barely passed. The twins eventually grew up to forget their parents. Aaron and Aedan were eventually assigned to Youngling Clan Bear.
As they grew older Aaron began to develop a reckless personality which would later (in his time as a Knight and Master) be known by the Council as a Gray Jedi. Meanwhile Aedan developed an interest in the dark side. Aaron cautioned him but his brother ignored him. When the time came for the Padawan selection, Aaron was picked but to his sadness Aedan was not and therefore was given the option to either resign or go to the Jedi Service Corps. Aedan chose to resign and left Aaron without saying goodbye.
Life As A Padawan (153 ABY–170 ABY)[]
Early Missions[]
You are defeated Aedan, come quietly and you will have a fair trial."
"I have no intention of "coming quietly" my brother.
— Aaron and Aedan before the latter "commits suicide"
Aaron and his new master's first mission was to travel to Ilum so that Aaron could build a lightsaber. Aaron finished his in record time, impressing his master. His first true mission was to negotiate a treaty between The Planet Reformation Act and the Republic. After several long days Achaz and his master emerged successful. Aaron proved himself as a wise Padawan on various missions. His true test was in 157 ABY. Aaron and his master were sent to uncover a mystery behing pirates having the Force. Arriving on the planet of Flourum, Aaron and his master split up to investigate. In a cantina, Aaron confronted two pirates who knew about the leader. The pirates were actually Aaron's parents and revealed that the leader was Aedan and he resided on a frigate on the edge of the system. Surprised at meeting his parents, Aaron spent 20 minutes with them until his master contacted him. Aaron told his master about the frigate but did not reveal that the pirate leader was Aedan. Aaron then promised his master they would rendezvous aboard the frigate and regretfully left his parents who promised to board the frigate as well and sabotage the hyperdrive.
Boarding the frigate, Achaz and his master rendezvoused on the upper deck then fought their way to the bridge where they confronted Aedan. Aedan revealed to Aaron that he had used his hate for the Jedi to embrace the dark side and find crystals to amplify ones connection to the force. Aedan attempted to sway Aaron but it did not work. Aaron told Aedan he was not going anywhere and revealed to his twin that his own parents had sabotaged the hyperdrive. Enraged Aedan attacked Aaron and his master. After a long duel in which half the bridge was destroyed, Aedan used the crystals to kill Aaron's master, wounding Aaron deeply. Aedan captured Aaron and once again, gave Aaron one final chance to join him which he refused point blank stating he would rather die. When Aedan left, Aaron snuck out and made his way to the bridge once again. Aaron and Aedan dueled for the second time in which Aaron overpowered Aedan with his lightsaber. Attempting to capture Aedan, Aaron underestimated his brother who blew up the ship. Aaron just barely escaped as the cruiser exploded before his eyes in which Aaron mourned the loss of his mother and father. He even pitied Aedan for committing suicide rather than be captured. Returning to the Temple Aedan took up independent studying instead of choosing another Master. 13 years later, Aaron passed the Trials and became a Jedi Knight.
Life As A Jedi Knight (170 ABY- 184 ABY)[]
Becoming A Teacher[]
Right After Achaz became a Jedi Knight he immediately wanted to take a Padawan so, without the permission of the Council, he accompanied a Master and his Padawan on a mission to see how a Master would guide his or her student. He learned a great deal and recorded notes. When he got back to the Temple he attended a Padawan Selection Ceremony for the current Clan Bear (Aaron's former Clan). Aaron was very picky and declined every Masters suggestion. In the end he ended up picking a nervous Twi'lek named Kaikos Kane. The Council was surprised at Achazs pick because Kaikos was the worst in the class and was a show off. In truth, Aaron only picked him because he saw some of Aedan in Kaikos and did not want another student following what Aaron's brother did.
In early training sessions, Aaron made Kaikos show him what he could do. It was a disaster. Kaikos could barely touch the Force and even had trouble levitating small objects. However Kaikos was an excellent duelist surprising Aaron. Aaron tried numerous things to help train his young apprentice all of which were not effective. After months Kaikos had only gotten more horrible and the Council was on the verge of sending Kaikos to the Jedi Service Corps. Refusing to give up, Aaron secretly followed his apprentice around studying him. 2 years later Aaron had all he needed. He had discovered Kaikos was more in tune with the Force when he was relaxed and happy and not at all showing off. To further amplify his control, Aaron learned he liked dueling as it reminded him of sparring on Ryloth.
Later Aaron summoned Kaikos to the training room. Kaikos thought it was going to be hopeless but Aaron proved him wrong saying he had a solution. Aaron guided Kaikos to control the Force by having him relax and not think and concentrating. Aaron then had him think how the feeling of a cold hilt was on his fingers as metal clanged. Kaikos obliged and Aaron told him to reach out with the Force while doing all of the things he had mentioned. For the first time, Kaikos felt the Force strongly and he was able to levitate simple objects. As they moved on with training Kaikos became better and better until he finally passed the last simple test Aaron had provided. Kaikos was thrilled and thanked Aaron who said it was no problem. Aaron took this news to the Council and they were surprised at Aaron's methods which were not at all like the current methods. Nevertheless, Aaron's padawan was allowed to stay in the Order to Aaron and Kaikos' delight.
The Onderoninan Dispute[]
Sometimes the Council really doesn't know how to solve a real problem. That is why I will be doing it my way which I promise Kaikos, is much more effective. So, when my method works, let this be a lesson that you don't always have to follow orders.
—Aaron to Kaikos as they travel to Onderon
One of Aaron and Kaikos' real missions was in 173 ABY. Their mission was to solve a problem between the boundaries of the royals of Onderon and the Beast Tamers. Their mission was to solve the problem by moving the boundary line. However Aaron thought this wrong. Aaron wanted to unite the royals and Tamers so everyone would get along. To do that, Aaron planned to negotiate that the Beast Tamers move to Onderon's moon of Dxun where there was plenty of space and beasts. However Aaron also wanted to keep them as allies. Kaikos disapproved wanting to follow the Council's orders. Aaron refused however stating that moving the boundary line would only get either side madder.
During the journey, Aaron taught Kaikos how to negotiate which he picked up pretty fast. When they arrived, Aaron called a meeting between King San and the Beast Tamer leader: Canel. As everyone was getting settled in, Aaron tasked Kaikos with removing the boundary line. Kaikos was appalled and explained to Aaron that that would make them mad. Aaron did not offer any explanation to why which concerned his apprentice. But he obliged. As Kaikos left, Aaron started the negotiations.
As the King and Canel started bugging Aaron to make their side bigger, Aaron calmed them down and said he would speak to one at a time. To the King Aaron said that he agreed that Onderon was worth more to the royals, and proceeded to explain that his apprentice was removing the line so that the royals could expand their land. This made Canel furious and he ordered King San to kill Kaikos in which he refused. As an argument started, Aaron once again calmed them down. Speaking to Canel he stated that Onderon had many moons with worthy prey especially Dxun. Canel concurred but told the Knight that Onderon had challenging beasts. Aaron told Canel that the first beast riders had brought those beasts from Dxun to defend the royals.
Therefore, Aaron proposed that the Beast Riders move to Dxun to hunt worthy beasts to defend the Onderonian people. To back up his claim, Aaron showed Canel various beasts on Dxun that were on his datapad. Canel was amazed and finally agreed to move to Dxun under the condition that San had to pay for the beasts they hunted plus, they had to keep a camp. San agreed but also added that young warriors should be allowed to go to Dxun to learn from the Beast Riders and prove themselves worthy. Canel agreed and they shook on it. Both San and Canel thanked Aaron for opening their eyes to their foolishness. Aaron waved them off and said that he and his Padawan would remain for a few months to help the Onderon people to expand plus find a suitable spot for the Beast Riders which ended up being in an old abandoned Mandalorian Outpost.
After six months, Aaron and Kaikos left. After returning to the Temple, the Council scolded Aaron for disobeying orders but nonetheless declared his methods effective. This mission, started Aaron's reputation as reckless and rule breaking making him a Gray Jedi.
Mission to Korriban[]
This mission will test your ability to confront the dark side. You never know when the Sith will rise again.
—Aaron to Kaikos before their mission to Korriban.
In 179 ABY Aaron confronted his apprentice saying that there was one lesson he had yet to learn: How to resist the calling of the dark side. Kaikos stated the lesson was pointless as the Sith had been extinct for over 4 decades. Aaron then said that there is always a Jedi that goes bad and studies the dark side and even if it does not happen, you always need to be prepared. Aaron did not reveal to Kaikos that he was only doing the mission because of what Aedan went through. So without notifying the Council, the Master and Apprentice traveled to Korriban.
As they traveled, Aaron lectured Kaikos on Korriban's history. When they did arrive, Kaikos noted the only sign of civilization was Dreshdae and it looked abandoned. Aaron explained to Kaikos that everyone had left due to the call of the dark side being more stronger and tempting.
Aaron took Kaikos to the Valley of the Dark Lords and showed him the tombs. Aaron could tell that Kaikos was chilled at how the spirits called him so Aaron told him to think of happy things, that way the light side could better shield your mind from the power and temptation. They also entered the old ruined Sith Academy.
The final thing Aaron had Kaikos do was enter the tomb of Ludo Kressh as a test. Kaikos reluctantly agreed and when he came out he was shaking all over. Aaron did not ask what he saw in their however he did tell his apprentice that what he saw in their would increase his resistance to the dark side. They then left.
Life As A Master (184 ABY-190 ABY)[]
Becoming A Jedi Master[]
You taught me well master and I appreciate it. I will take your teachings to heart as I move on in my life as a Jedi. What I'm trying to say is...thank you.
—Kaikos to Aaron before they part ways
Through the following years, Aaron and Kaikos continued to go on countless missions doing what was right. By 184 ABY the two had formed a powerful bond together. The same year, Aaron allowed Kaikos to take the trials. Eventually he succeeded and Aaron was present when the Council declared him a Jedi Knight. In the same room, the Council reluctantly promoted Aaron to Jedi Master. Thrilled, Aaron arranged a private celebration between Kaikos and his friends for Kaikos becoming a Jedi Knight. After, Kaikos thanked Aaron for being a great teacher and hoped he and Aaron would be assigned on missions together. Aaron thanked Kaikos for being a wonderful student and told his former apprentice to take Aaron's teachings with him. Kaikos promised he would then they parted ways. Aaron would not see Kaikos again.
Meeting Anar Velron[]
In 185 ABY, Aaron decided to take a leave from the Jedi and traveled to his penthouse on Corellia. He stayed their for over 3 months denying any missions the Council sent him due to the fact he was on leave. However the Force interfered with Aaron's leave. While checking out the scenery, Aaron came across Museum Republica. He was about to go in when he noticed that one of the Corellian Security Officers was Force Sensitive. After reaching out with the Force he concluded it was the lazy one who kept dropping his blaster.
Asking to speak to him, Aaron led the young man over to Coronet Zoo. Observing the animals, Aaron remarked how beautiful they were and the young man asked coldly why he had taken him away from duty. Aaron revealed he was a Jedi in which the young man instantly showed respect. Aaron asked for the mans name in which he replied that his name was Anar Velron. Aaron tested the mans force sensitivity by asking him if he could calm the reek. When the man did, Aaron (who sensed that Anar had many of the same qualities as him as well) asked if he would be his second apprentice. Aaron further explained that he believed Anar could change the galaxy. Velron refused stating he was to old plus his family needed him. Aaron said that no one was to old to train plus offered Velron 50 000 credits for his family. Anar eagerly accepted and after telling his family, they returned to Coruscant where Anar proved himself worthy.
Training Anar[]
Training Anar was much more easy then training Kaikos in Aaron's eyes. Anar quickly advanced and the two quickly formed a close bond due to the fact that they were alike. Aaron took Anar on a lot of missions and taught him the same stuff he taught Kaikos. Like Aaron did to Kaikos they traveled to Korriban where Anar mastered resisting the dark side. Also unlike Kaikos, Anar did not question why they were doing it.
They also spent a lot of time in the Coruscant Underworld helping orphans. They were later arrested on suspicion of dark side activity due to their reputation plus spending to much time in the Underworld. However Aaron was ale to convince them otherwise and they were released. Anar also got homesick and tried to go home but Aaron stopped him saying it was natural.
Mission to Dagobah[]
I don't know why you want to listen to this man. It is obviously a trap. I beg you to reconsider Master."
"Aaron: I'm sorry my apprentice. I wish I could tell you but. It's personal.
—Aaron and Anar after a hooded figure approaches them telling them to go to Dagobah.
One day, Aaron and Anar were approached by a mysterious man telling them to go to Dagobah where they would meet their fate. Anar did not want to go but Aaron was determined partly because the hooded figure had a familiar force aura. He did not reveal this to Anar however. In the morning they left for Dagobah.
Above Dagobah they were ambushed by mysterious stealth ships. Aaron managed to take them down but one of them shot Anar and he crashed onto the swamp planet. While searching in space, Achaz found his apprentices distress signal and landed beside his ruined ship. Now, Anar was more determined to leave fearing that one of them would have to stay behind. Aaron promised he would stay behind if anything went wrong so they continued investigating.
After a week the duo discovered the Cave of Evil. Aaron made Anar go in to prove his worth. While Anar was in the Cave, Aaron discovered the crashed pirate ship that Aedan had committed suicide on. Aaron began to wonder if Aedan survived the explosion when Anar cam out shaking saying he had saw an army of Sith warships, and Aaron getting struck down. Disappointed that his apprentice had failed, Aaron reassured his apprentice that visions of the future were not always true. They then headed off.
Death[]
There is no death, there is only the Force.
— Aaron Achaz's last thoughts
A few days later they found the man with two other figures. The man revealed himself to be Aedan, who had spent years gathering a Sith army to destroy the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi plus get revenge on Aedan. Aaron tried to change Aedan's mind but the Sith refused and engaged him and Anar in a duel.
The duel went on for hours maybe in which Aaron succeeded in striking the two other Sith down. However Aedan pushed Anar away with the Force to Aaron's surprise. While Aaron was distracted Aedan, in a swift motion, beheaded his brother ending the wise Jedi Master's life.
Post-mortem[]
I heard that he died a few weeks back. I'm sorry Anar. I know how you feel. He was my master too.
—Kaikos Kane to Anar after Anar mentioned Aaron
Aaron's death hit everyone hard especially Anar who had witnessed it happen. Achaz's death was the first casualty of the Dark War. Anar would always remember Aaron as would Kaikos Kane who reflected how Aaron had taught him everything as he lay dying during the war. Anar would later take on an apprentice who would kill Achaz's brother Aedan and take over the Sith. Anar would then defeat his former apprentice thus ending the war. As Anar lay dying in space he swore he hear Aaron say "Don't give in." as he was dying. Later in 225 ABY Anar would also die.
The Weapon of Spirits[]
When Jedi were suddenly struck by a mysterious illness telling them to kill their masters and flee to the Unknown Reigons, Achaz witnessed how Anar was the first to die by his apprentice. Aaron was also one of many spirits that was captured by Zyle Charks Weapon of Spirits, and appeared along with Anar, Kaikos and millions of other Jedi when Anar's step-daughter freed Barak Cloud, killed Zyle Chark and destroyed the Weapon of Spirits.
Personality and traits[]
I don't care if I am reckless, or rule breaking, because that is who I am.
—Aaron Achaz
As a Youngling Aaron was very quiet smart and gifted being able to master all basic techniques in his first class. He also cared a lot about his brother Aedan. As a Padawan, Aaron was loyal and did anything he was supposed to. He was not afraid to follow orders as demonstrated when he fought his brother Aedan aboard the pirate frigate. The loss of his master hit him hard but he moved on in life.
As a Jedi Knight, Aaron began to see that the Council did not always take the best approach on things. He started to develop a reckless personality and was willing to do anything that was right. He was also very determined as shown when he did not give up on training Kaikos. As a Master, Achaz maintained all his traits but also became very wise and very thoughtful. He believed that no matter what age, anyone should be trained as a Jedi. He also grew to be a very good teacher and a wise mentor.
Powers and abilities[]
Aaron Achaz had a very strong affinity to the Force. He was able to master all techniques and by the time he was a master, he was considered one of the best Masters in the Order! He was very well practiced in Sorresu being able to hold off his brother Aedan for hours before his untimely death.
