Rise of the Empire era

A Just Cause is a Star Wars fan fiction vignette written by Antonstaen in 2009. The story is told from the perspective of a Kaleesh warrior, during the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War.

Story[]

I steady my aim, taking a look trough the iron sights. Somehow, I manage to avoid being glared by the burning sun, and presses the trigger. I'm pushed back by the recoil, and a shower of projectiles sprays towards the enemy. I can see them clearly, despite the distance. One of our enemies is hit, falling to the rocky ground.

My comrades, standing beside me, begin to fire. Their weapons are the same as mine, arms bearing the hallmarks of a republic, our so-called ally. I know in my heart that they're just as bad as those who we fight, despite them insisting on something different.

They try to launch a counterattack, but fail. Our men are better marksmen - A man's abilities are enhanced when he fights for a just cause. They, on the other hand, fight for nothing but their own fortune. Disgusting beings, no more than pathetic animals.

I take cover behind a rock, reloading my weapon. Within soon, I have fired once again. This time I don't hit anything but stone. My brothers-in-arms are more lucky - They're actually hitting the enemy. Soon, the battle is won. We walk towards what remains of the enemy patrol to search their corpses. I see their battered bodies, their cold eyes.. Somebody normal might have felt something at this point, but not me. Their deaths mean nothing but less enemies to slaughter.

We will win this war, I can feel it in my soul. Victory is nearing. A few more months perhaps, but then.. Then their ranks will be broken, their strongholds will be breached and their lives will be ended.

Vengeance at last. Vengeance for my people, for my village, for my family.

Behind the scenes[]

The author deliberately wrote the story in a vague manner. It can, in fact, be read as told from the perspective of a mujahideen during the Soviet war in Afghanistan as well as from that which is described in this article. Antonstaen was, at the time, inspired by the book The Cardinal of the Kremlin.

Viewed as rather badly written by its author, A Just Cause is not meant to entertain anybody else than the one who wrote it.
