Plot Summary[]

The Jedi Council wants Tirien Kal-Di and Narasi Rican to hunt down Darth Alecto, but Tirien demurs, finding the mission infeasible and morally objectionable as an assassination; he is also still conflicted about Alecto, wondering if there is something in her worth redeeming. He is more receptive to a teaching post at the Jedi Temple, though Narasi balks at being removed from the war. Before he is forced to decide, the two are sent to Alderaan to ensure King Rosulus Organa does not withdraw Alderaan's delegation to the Senate.

On Alderaan, Narasi befriends Elyria Organa, the crown princess, while Tirien makes a good impression on King Rosulus. The two continue to meet with Alderaanian officials over the following weeks while also resuming Narasi's Force training. After King Rosulus agrees to remain within the Republic and to support Supreme Chancellor Thini, Tirien and Narasi seek guidance from the Force for their next steps. Narasi receives many visions, but most pressingly one showing a threat to the Organas. The two return to Aldera in time to save the Organas from kidnap. When the mercenary captain falsely accuses Alderaanian Senator Jerex Antilles of ordering the mission, Tirien forcibly extracts the truth from his mind, but is conflicted afterward.

Tirien and Narasi compare notes and discover they shared only one vision in common: both of them aboard the Crescentia. They decide to return there, but receive orders from the Jedi Council to remain on Alderaan when Alecto's Anzati perpetrate a series of assassinations of Republic leaders across the Republic.
