The 522nd Battalion was an elite fighting unit under the Galactic Republic and later Galactic Empire. The members in it had black and blue marking on their armor. Ranger Company was a unit within the battalion led mostly by Lt. Liru. They were seen on many planets, mostly the one's Ranger Company have failed at infiltrating, or one's that were out of their level.

Some troopers of the 522nd Battalion clones of Zack Ranger, who had been genetically modified to be the perfect soldier, besides Jango Fett. Cloned by expert Kaminoan scientists, the troopers were given the best training available in many fields, most of them concerning urban environments. Members of the 522nd Battalion fought in deep enemy controlled space. The battalion was under the command of Krx Zon, and Clone Captain CC-7675, nicknamed "Shrapnel." Under Krx's command the 522nd soon was a master at sieges. Often finding Ranger Company at dire situations, but managing to escape with them each time. Among the earliest siege's of the 522nd, and first infiltrations of Ranger Company, (). The infiltration didn't go as planned, the supposed town, was actually a communications base of operations. There were many more droids than expected, so this went up to number one priority for the battalion. The town was defended on two fronts, the dried river bed and the sand dunes. The clones opted for the river bed.
