New Jedi Order era

The 3WO-25 heavy defense tank was a treaded tank in the service on the Eniam Army.

3WO-25s were designed by Eniam Nationalized Engineering to be wide and tough. There primary role was defense, primarily infantry escort and choke point holding. They had very powerful shield generators mounted on them. These shields were wide enough to protect enemy units. A retractable dish and a power transfer could widen the wall of energy. This versatile system had one crew member dedicated to it.

The defense tanks each had a heavy mass driver cannon designed for shredding enemy vehicles and troop formations alike. This was supplemented by 3 medium anti-vehicle lasers, and 6 fast-tracking anti-infantry guns that were each about as powerful as a blaster rifle. Each medium laser and each pair of light guns were controlled by one gunner. Only one light laser defended the rear. The other guns could not turn around all the way; the tanks were made for forward-facing defense. However, their treads could move in opposite directions, enabling the tanks to turn quickly.

Many 3WO-25 crews sacrificed themselves in the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Over a quarter of the population escaped, in no small part due to the shield bubbles erected by rows of defense tanks, and cover fire that slowed the waves of aliens down.

Behind the scenes[]

3WOs were partially inspired by Paladin Defense Tanks from the Unreal Tournament series, as well as real-life, treaded tanks that shot shells.
