The 312th Imperial Fighter Wing, later nicknamed Crimson Wing, was an elite fighter wing serving the Galactic Empire and its descendants. Formed in the early years of the Empire, the 312th participated in combat operations during the Galactic Civil War and was comprised of TIE Series starfighters. Known for its successful reputation and talented pilots, the fighter wing was often mentioned as an example of what the best pilots and machines can do. After the Battle of Endor, the 312th was attached to the Imperial Remnant of Gallius Rax until the Empire's defeat at the Battle of Jakku, and later was attached to the Imperial Remnant of Rae Sloane. The fighter wing survived the fall of the Empire and the changeover from the Imperial Remnant to the First Order, serving the Empire's successor. When the Crimson Imperium rose from the defeat of the First Order, the 312th Fighter Wing went into the service of the newly born galactic government.
Characteristics[]
The 312th Imperial Fighter Wing consisted of six squadrons, which amounted to seventy-two ships including forty-eight TIE Fighters, twelve TIE Bombers, and 12 TIE Interceptors. The squadrons were referred to as first squadron 1/312th, second squadron 2/312th, third squadron 3/312th, fourth squadron 4/312th, fifth squadron 5/312th, and sixth squadron 6/312th, though they all used alternative designations. It was typical for the fighter wing's commander to lead the 1/312th, with the executive officer commanding the 2/312th. The fighter wing did not always operate as a single unit, as elements of it could be dispatched separately to various theaters of battle. During the Galactic Civil War, the fighter wing was based on the Star Destroyer Seeker, and utilized several Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carriers. Decades after the Empire’s fall, the 312th upgraded to the latest TIE Fighters, making them faster, more maneuverable, and better armed.
