The 1st Special Troops Battalion was a special purpose support battalion attached to the Republic Special Operations Brigade, Republic Special Forces Group, which provided specialized assets at the brigade formation level. It supported Republic special forces across the galaxy and provided support activities such as special reconnaissance (SR), military intelligence, military security / military police (MP), medical assets, combat engineers, mechanics, logistics, human resources (HR), administration, special operations aviation (SOA), and military communications, which allowed the Republic Special Operations Brigade to independently sustain special operations on a galactic scale autonomously, transforming the Special Operations Brigade into an independent and sustained brigade combat team.
The Surface Task Reconnaissance force was a platoon subordinated under the 1st Special Troops Battalion.
