The 1st Division was an infantry unit of of the Republic Volunteer Corps. It was mobilized in 21 BBY, ten months into the Clone Wars, by orders of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine after the Militarist faction of the Galactic Senate pushed through the formation of a volunteer army.[1] It was one of the first twenty divisions raised to fight in the Clone Wars. The 1st Division initially consisted of recruits from Coruscant, Anaxes, Kuat, and other Core Worlds, including many veterans of the Judicial Forces and various planetary defense forces. The 1st Division was demobilized in 18 BBY, when Galactic Emperor Palpatine ordered all Republic volunteer units of the former Grand Army dissolved.[2]

The 1st Division fought in many battles of the Clone Wars and distinguished itself particularly during the Outer Rim Sieges, seeing action on Saleucami, Mygeeto, and Murkhana. When Order 66 was issued, volunteer troopers of the 1st Division took part in trying to kill Roan Shryne and some other Jedi Knights who escaped their clone troopers. Shortly afterwards, the division was rotated off Murkhana and took part in mopping up remaining Separatist forces during Ciutric Offensive. It would spend several months of 18 BBY guarding rear lines and supply bases during the Sy Myrthian Insurrection before being dissolved.[3]

During its time away from the frontline, its headquarters was officially on Coruscant.
