I think many of us were let down by the Disney trilogy. I told my friends, I said "Anyone could write a better story than them." And so then I think I want you guys to join me.
First we're just brainstorming the story:
I wanted to get rid of the "Resistance" and to simply have the New Republic. The Empire remnants continue to hide in the Unknown Regions, and more world building can occur. Perhaps we get to see Admiral Thrawn, who receives the late Emperor's final commands via his sentinel droid. Luke Skywalker trains a new Jedi order, but Ben Solo turns to the dark side. Or I'm considering having the Solo twins from legends. I don't know whether I want to keep Rey, as I didn't enjoy her as a character at all.
The Sith will be reborn by the surviving inquisitors. Two remaining inquistors fought for the title of Sith Lord, and the one who lived went to search for a new apprentice. Maybe there could be flashbacks of sorts to empire times.
I don't like how Jakku is almost exactly the same as Tattoine. So maybe change it up a bit. Still make it a desert planet, but perhaps with more civilized and larger cities?
I think perhaps Poe should die, leaving Finn on his own. This could help give Finn a character arc, and also because Poe stopped being an interesting character afterwards.
I don't think I want Luke to be hiding, so perhaps he recruits Rey as a jedi?
I honestly don't know how Rey's character arc should go. It could go in so many directions. I heard one person say if she and Ben were brother and sister it would be cool, so that's another idea. Plus that gives her a legitimate reason to be a Skywalker. But I'm unsure about this.
I was thinking Hux could be replaced by admiral Thrawn.
Whoever becomes Ben/Kylo's master might not be considered full sith, so he could visit the Nightsisters of Dathomir and other locations with Sith artifacts to learn more about the power of the Dark side.
