Come one! Come all! Come and participate in the second Star Wars Fanon Short Story Contest! Our first one, hosted by Atarumaster88 and presided over by the Archivists, was a raging success, and we hope we can duplicate that success and even surpass it with this contest! Your host for these here proceedings will be the Great and Powerful Oz...er, never mind the man behind the curtain. He will act as merely a mostly hands-off referee, except in instances as defined in the rules.
Like our last contest, the hope here is to generate further interest in both fan fiction writing and getting some new nominations for featured work status. After all, as Atarumaster88 always likes to say, always write for praise and awards. Write what you want because you think it's what other people want and so you can get shiny talk page templates!
...
OK so maybe Ataru never said that, but in this case go nuts with your award seeking! That is what the contest is for, after all, but we do hope it spotlights a focus on fan fiction writing. Good luck to all the nominees, and let the games begin!
The rules[]
These are the rules. Pirates, ye be warned.
- Length: Entries must be between 2,500 and 26,000 words. This allows for the possibility of shorter short stories, as well as decent-sized novellas. However, the novellas must not be longer than 26,000 words. Just remember, though, quantity does not necessarily dictate quality, so there is no need to pad your story just to make it longer than it needs to be. There are plenty of great shorter stories and plenty of awful longer stories out there that prove this (I rest my case). Additionally, only complete stories will be accepted, meaning that stories that are not yet finished are not eligible for this contest.
- Nominations: You can nominate your own story. You can also nominate other users' stories. You cannot, however, vote for your own story once voting begins. If you nominate another user's story and they want it taken down, that is their right to do so. Additionally, the first place winners from the last contest may not be re-nominated in the categories for which they won.
- Multiple entries: You can nominate as many stories you want for as many categories you want. If you nominate a story in a category that it does not belong in, it will be moved by the contest's host (the man behind the curtain) to the appropriate category.
- Content: All stories must comply with the content policy. Stories that do not will be removed and an administrator will review the story.
- Medium: Only textual narratives will be accepted, so no comics, photonovels, videos, video games, etc. Narrative texts can be in article sub-page form (per the Manual of Style), .PDF file form, etc. Stories must be hosted on Star Wars Fanon (no external linking).
- Voting: Once voting begins, you may only vote once per category. You may not vote for your own story. You can, however, vote for your own nomination, provided that you are not the author of the nominee. All relevant matters of the voting policy apply.
The prizes[]
Like the last contest, special userboxes and talk page templates will be created so you can show off how super duper awesome you are to all of your friends!!! Additionally, Atarumaster88 and Jedimasterfiolli have agreed to personally tell everyone they know on Wookieepedia just how great your story is, and that it should most certainly become canon. Just kidding...or am I?
Additionally, if an Archivist reads your work and enjoys it, there is always the possibility that they might nominate it for featured work status (if you have not already done so by the time you nominate it for this contest). Yet another great way to have praise heaped upon you!
The schedule[]
The nomination period will last through 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on June 30th, giving you just over six (6) weeks to write your story (if you have not already written one). At the end of the nomination process, the host (with input from the Archivists) will decide whether a category with less than three (3) nominees will remain or be merged with another category. Categories with only one nominee will be automatically merged with the most applicable category. There will be no winning by default.
Voting will run from 12am Eastern Standard Time on July 1st to 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on July 22nd. At that point, the voting will be closed and the stories with the most votes in each category will be declared the winners. Good luck to all nominees!
The nominations[]
This section is now closed. New nominations are NOT being accepted.
The voting[]
A brief reminder of the rules:
- No new nominations will be accepted.
- You may only vote once per category.
- You may not vote for your own story. This means that if you are listed as an author, you cannot vote for that story. You can, however, vote for your own nomination, so long as you are not the author of the nominee.
- All relevant matters of the voting policy apply.
- Voting will last until 11:59 Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, July 22nd.
Good luck to all the nominees! - Brandon Rhea (talk) 04:24, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

Deception on R'alla by Atarumaster88[]
Best Mystery[]
Star Wars: The Real Empire by Station7[]
- I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but while the other two entries are impressive pieces of work, I firmly believe that neither are a mystery in the same sense as this work. That statement is in no way meant to offend anyone (though I'm sure at least a few will be offended by this vote) - all three candidates in this category are gripping and exceptionally well-written, and while it could be easily argued that Coruscant's Finest and Fail-Safe outclass this story in terms of prose quality, plot intricacy, and a number of other factors, I just don't think that either of them are as mysterious as The Real Empire is. Please note that I've only had time to read portions of these three stories; that is why I am only voting in this one category; otherwise, I would consider voting for FS and CF in some of the other categories (provided I also had time to read the other entries). -MPK, Free Man 20:14, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

Well... it fits into action and comedy, but comedy is defenitely its strong suit... hopefully i will be able to finish it today. and sorry for not signing my last post.Gnost-Dural (Talk) 11:25, June 22, 2010 (UTC) Although, it's also defenitely post-movie. the dark nest crisis... hm... I'll do both comedy and post-movie. Gnost-Dural (Talk) 11:27, June 22, 2010 (UTC) Next question. How much wiggle room do I have on the length? I am within 400 words of the minimum length, almost within 300 words, and I have decided that it must come to an end. I am very happy with this ending, and I would like to enter it. PS it's kinda a rush... could i get a prompt answer? not to be pushy or anything, but the due date is in just a few days and I would like to have time if I need to elngthen it. Thanks.Gnost-Dural (Talk) 14:23, June 22, 2010 (UTC)
I am complaining about my comedy competition-to-be. i stopped reading at the part where the scientist studying water molecules got bored... Thanks. You have helped Senatorial Aide Van Ishkoh and I so much. We had a deal that he gets partial credit and I write it... but he came up with the story.Gnost-Dural (Talk) 17:21, June 22, 2010 (UTC) Nomination ends at 00:00 on July 1st, right?--Josh BenderTalk 18:08, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
