Plot[]

Celeste Ial, captain of the Frayed Hunter, lands her ship on her home planet of Eriadu on the way to Voltar. While stationed planetside, Celeste learns that her childhood friend, Echon Tarkin, survived the Battle of Endor. The two stay the night in their old home after reminiscing. In the morning, Echon is confronted by Evan Zenete, Celeste's second-in-command. After the two exchange words, Evan drugs Echon and kidnaps him. Aurea Hali, a friend of Echon's, senses this and sneaks on-board the ship.

As the Frayed Hunter travels to Voltar, Aurea frees Echon and the two manage to knock out Evan. They find Celeste, also drugged by Evan and attempt to escape just as the ship arrives at Voltar. Oulu, believing the Volta to strike, attacks one of their fighters. After a small battle ensues, the crew manages to escape to the planet's surface.

On Voltar, Nayt Fillion and Skoti Romero, two rebels, intercepts the conversation between the Frayed Hunter and DF-88, a Nationalist pilot. One of the escape pods crashed near them and the pair investigate. Echon, Celeste, and Aurea crash somewhere else and are captured by Nationalist soldiers. Before they can be taken into custody, a witch named Mila appears and captures them. Nayt returns to his base and is chewed out by Meda, his commanding officer. After Meda departs, Nayt and Skoti decide to seek out the help of Meda's old mentor, Jax Refiek.

Echon, Celeste, and Aurea wake up at Mila's hideout, which happens to also be Jax's home. Mila tends to Echon's wounds before Nayt and Skoti arrive. After trying to poison Skoti fails, Jax appears and talks with Nayt and Skoti about Meda. Wanting to talk to Meda, Jax agrees to go with them to their base, bringing Mila, Echon, Celeste and Aurea along as well.

The crew arrives only to find the base had been destroyed and the survivors of the Frayed Hunter had been captured and sent to Caucasus, a practically impenetrable prison facility. They devise a plan and attack the complex, starting a riot. While inside, they learn that Arcia, the Krayt maiden, has been locked up there as well. The group splits up and rescues both Arcia and the Frayed Hunter's crew. Afterwords, the group is rescued by rebel forces on their way to liberate Viscera.

Behind the scenes[]

Imperial Treachery was started on September 2, 2008.[7] The novel is a retelling of Echon's past, which effectively makes it the first retcon for the Death Watch Revival Series. The release of the concept cover on September 4th, 2008 revealed Nightmare975's name to be Josh Bender.[2] On November 11, 2008, Bender restarted the novel, changing the location and major parts of the storyline. The cover was also removed, due to the author's distaste in it. On February 9, 2009, Bender released a sample of the first rewritten chapter, asking for criticism.[8] Finally, on March 5, 2009, he released the full first chapter.[1] On May 16, 2009, he released the second chapter.[9] After numerous delays, chapter three was released on August 30, 2009. [3] On October 18, 2009, Josh released a new version of the cover. [10] On March 5, 2011, two years after his first release, Josh released new drafts of the first three chapters.
